Sailing by an Unseen Chart How old sea treaties, lunar loopholes, domestic laws, and media narratives quietly reshape who the Moon is really for

One odd side effect of working in space is realising how much of your job runs on law and politics you only half remember from a slide deck.

This offcut is about the map Artemis II is sailing through, and who gets to draw it (or not).

While visible images show a classic donut CDO typical of strong typhoon / hurricane / cyclones the latest MW images show a reasonably thin and lopsided eyewall structure, which is surprising given its very strong visible presentation. #Sinlaku #04U

Earlier this evening Maila reached the absolutely ludicroously exceptional intensity of 125 kts but now Malia has begun to weaken. This is propably at least in part due to the system meandering back west deeper into her own cold pool.

Im not going to post the model runs post tau 144hrs as you might as well throw a handfull of darts at a dartboard, but all models hint it coming back towards Queensland after 7-10 days.

Something to definitely keep an eye on!

Tropical low 37U is forecast to form in the Solomon Sea in the next week.

ACCESS, EC and GFS deterministic runs have it intensifying to tropical cyclone strength in about a week.

New version of the protostar Barnard 335 with #JWST NIRCam, removing most of the banding noise.

Preview of commons still shows older version, but this might change to the newer version. Or it will stay like this?

The rain has started here in Perth and looking forward to a lot more after 3 months with no significant rain events. Early reports from Exmouth are not good though. Narelle slowed and sat on them most of the night at Category 4 strength. Pic: ABC News.

Cyclone Narelle is looking a lot healthier this afternoon with a broad ragged eye evident in the latest sat loops

Broad and deep moisture wrapping the system over very warm SSTs >30 °C

It will go *BOOM* soon with a period of RI for the next 24 hrs.

Big differences between the GFS and EC Ensembles highlight the uncertainty in ex #Cyclone Narelle ( #34U / #27P) 's track.

Big differences between official BoM track and JTWC too ...

Bottom line- it is a waiting game. Dont believe the hype (yet)

One of my favourite facts is that the spiky tail of a stegosaurus didn't used to have a specific name, until Gary Larson published this Far Side cartoon, at which point "thagomizer" was adopted by paleontologists.
