Evolving brain-immunity: From Ramón y Cajal’s mysterious butterflies to a garden sustained by immune cells as their nectar Over the last three decades, dogma-breaking studies have refuted the brain’s assumed immune isolation. Echoing Ramón y Cajal metaphor of neurons as “butterflies,” Schwartz proposes viewing the brain a...

this is a nice discussion. I think the pressure to always innovate computationally actually slows down science when we already have a lot of great tools. The important and arguably hard part is to interpret what the output of these tools mean scientifically.

My new use for Gemini: I give it a bunch of information and ask it to write me code to make a nice infographic figure to plot in python and it is amazing !

Out of many, IL-1 Sick animals often show reduced social engagement, a form of adaptive behavioral distancing thought to limit pathogen transmission beyond the infected individual. In a recent issue of Cell, Yang et al. identified a defined molecular and anatomical pathway through which inflammatory signals are sensed by the brain and translated into active social withdrawal.

Immunity in Alzheimer’s disease: From mechanisms to therapies Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is driven by dynamic interactions between innate and adaptive immunity. Colonna, Chen, and Holtzman review recent advances in the genetic and mechanistic understanding of how microglia and T cells shape AD progression, and discuss how immunotherapeutic strategies must incorporate temporal and biological precision to modify neurodegeneration.

Targeting immune cells in the aged brain reveals that engineered cytokine IL-10 enhances neurogenesis and improves cognition Immune cells populate the old brain, but whether they can be specifically targeted to improve brain function in older individuals remains unclear. Navarro Negredo et al. dissect how aging impacts brain immune activity and show that targeting immune cells with an engineered IL-10 variant rebalances inflammatory programs in microglia, improves neurogenesis, and enhances cognition in old mice.
