Last night the #COP17 Armenian incoming presidency held an information session. They say they want to move from rhetoric to real action, and that they want to make it an inclusive Conference of Parties with full engagement of Indigenous People and Local Communities, women, youth and, civil society!🌳
Our focus on Item 5 on midterm review of the Gender Plan of Action:
☑️A stronger approach to women's leadership & access to land and resources
☑️Increased support (financial and technical) for gender and biodiversity
☑️An explicit reference to cooperation with the CBD Women's Caucus
During the #SBI-6 in Rome on Tuesday, we were supposed to continue our work on Item 5 of the Gender Plan of Action and aimed to solidify the discussion (see last update) in a conference room paper. 📝
However, we are stuck on a previous agenda item...
Yesterday and today we have been focussing on item 5 on the midterm review of the Gender Plan of Action (GPA).
🔥 Monday's overview:
- More funds needed to fully implement the GPA
- Concern for lack of gender-specific data
- Most agree: move words into action!
- GPA is a key instrument
Women in all their diversity are safeguarding and restoring biodiversity, so it's high time their work is recognised! #SBI-6 #CBD #Rome
Annabel at #SBI-6 : We'll be closely following discussions on the mid-term review of the Gender Plan of Action, alongside cooperation with other conventions. The latter is a key point to continue our advocacy at the climate COP for increased synergies between the Rio Conventions. 🤝
Ciao, Roma! This week, our colleague Annabel is in Rome for the #SBI-6 meeting of the global biodiversity convention ( #CBD ). Together with the CBD Women's Caucus, she'll be advocating for gender-just, human rights-based and equitable implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework. 🌱
