These Salmon Got High on Cocaine. That Wasnβt the Craziest Part.
Researchers gave cocaine to salmon and they swam faster and traveled farther than their sober counterparts.
A headline I never imagined.

Aerial view of the Columbia Glacier region with labeled areas including Main Branch, West Branch, Rocky Outcrop, Great Nunatak, and Heather Island. Snow-capped mountains and greenery are visible. The image includes a scale showing 5 kilometers.
This image consists of two diagrams labeled "a" and "b." Both diagrams illustrate phases of glacier activity from a side view. In "a," the terminus of the glacier is floating in water, with labeled "Buoyancy" forces on the immersed terminus. Diagram "b" shows a glacier terminus supported by land, with a piece of glacier calving into the water, creating labeled "Pressure waves" and "Seismic waves" depicted with lines and arrows.
Glaciers can't talk,π¬ but PhD student Sebin John's recently published research shows how the seismic record at Columbia Glacier tells the story of the glacier's retreat over past decades, with insights that could be useful for other tidewater glaciers in Alaska! https://bit.ly/4mJPqMC

A moth with an orange face and black eyes. It is hanging from a twig looking directly at the camera. It is very fluffy, like a teddy bear
Moth faces are so cute. Hereβs a moth in the genus Trosia
This book cover is giving definite rhizocephalan vibes. The larva of a parasitic barnacle invades a crab, takes over its digestive (to steal nourishment) & nervous (to control movement & behavior) systems, & ultimately uses the host to feed, protect, & disperse its babies - a perfect horror tale. π¦

Map of the contiguous United States showing the spring bloom index anomaly as of April 19, 2026 from the USA National Phenology Network. Many areas are earlier than normal.
Aside from Florida, nearly the entire contiguous U.S. has experienced earlier than average first plant blooms in 2026. Earlier springs can cause longer allergy seasons, accelerate wildfire risk, increase pests/mosquitoes, and lead to less reliable snow-fed water.
