Guess what I was thinking when I wrote this question is the standard approach with NCEA probability exam questions here in New Zealand sadly. It drives me crazy every year. How about we have questions in plain English so students can show their understanding of the subject?

Cartoon. Title: “Super Mad” Image shows Winston Peters in a Superman outfit, braced for action, and saying, “STAND BACK! I must protect these older white folk from Wokesters, Indians, Chinese, and a pesky Rarotongan who dares to call our fine country ‘Aotearoa’”
Sketches are king
Flashy. It's like a blackmarketeer's coat with all the goodies inside
Mine was a Casio with a folding leatherette case
Would be great to see this adopted in NZ schools. This UK school is reporting at 21% decrease in their absence rate.

If my student already uses the grid/area to multiply or factorise, I’ll use this. I do like that the product of the diagonals is always the same. That’s fun.
Agreed. The steady creep of Americanisms is my hill.
One of the coolest math facts that I know is that the only circle that fits perfectly in a 3-4-5 right triangle has an area of pi.
Here's how we can prove this.
IRT sounds very much like the grading system we currently have in NZ, with achieved, merit and excellence questions and responses. Sadly it looks like we're getting rid of this for A-E percentage grading.
It really doesn’t. Plato had a great answer to this problem more than two millennia ago. In the Theaetetus, he describes memory not as a storehouse or filing cabinet, but as a birdcage. Imagine, he says, that each of us has a cage in our minds filled with birds. 1/
I keep coming back to this. Just such a fundamental failure of everything that has been claimed about a "knowledge rich" curriculum. Teachers are demanded to have higher standards but this slop is what they put out as their big rewrite.
Geraldine High School #mathematicians continue to want to take their maths further. Yet again next year we will have more year 13s studying a maths course than any other subject #nz #maths #ncea #level3
Is there a way to access all the drag and drop activities?
The video links are public, so will work for schools who don't use Dr Frost too. Hopefully they might be of help to other teachers and students preparing for 1.4 across AoNZ. #ncea #maths #level1 #mathematicalreasoning #newzealand @drfrostmaths.bsky.social
Also linking to @drfrostmaths.bsky.social
@drfrostresource.bsky.social for anyone else in #NZ using Dr Frost maths, I've put together this spreadsheet linking to key skills and videos for our #NCEA Level 1 students taking the 1.4 exam. They'll be using this to boost their exam prep tinyurl.com/GHSMaths Any suggested improvements welcome
Will she be telling everyone about other subjects she failed?
