About one quarter of the 20659 proteins in the human proteome have TMDs. Most have 1 TMD, there's about 1000 with 7 TMDs. Details are in the post, which is linked.

How many proteins in the human proteome have transmembrane domains? And of those, how many examples with n TMDs are there?
Couldn't find an answer, so I calculated it from Uniprot data with some #RStats magic (and I did some model organisms while I was at it). ๐Ÿงช

A star scientist showed that better genetics lessons could reduce racism. It was the death knell for his career Brian Donovan had persuaded high school teachers and education researchers that prejudice might be ended by changing how genetics is taught.

โ€œWeโ€™ve lost out on the ability to continue to improve this work to make it more effective, and to explore how to apply it to other areasโ€ฆThere are a lot of different ways that genetics has been used to justify prejudice andโ€ฆthat human-made social categories interface with biological categoriesโ€œ๐Ÿงช

Guangshuo Ou's lab is a powerhouse. Here they create a C. elegans mutant collection to model human disease variants of uncertain significance.

The limitation section raises the challenge of storing & sharing strains. The NIH funds the CGC. How can we build international resources w/cost sharing?

Using EMS mutagenesis, authors generated & sequenced 12,069 viable C. elegans strains, identifying 541,102 missense mutations. They developed TaoChongBao, an open-access database integrating mutation data, greatly expanding functional variant resources. www.life-science-alliance.org/content/9/6/...
