A family of Ravens is putting the goth back in gothic at NYC's largest cathedral--St John the Divine. There are five mouths to feed, so the parents are staying busy! ⛪️⛪️⛪️ #Ravens #Cathedral #birding
I think it’s beyond retrieval. I may need to start again. (I think I’ve got some dried starter somewhere, will have to check)
I have had my starter go mouldy while on extended hiatus in the fridge but I assume that’s due to a faulty storage vessel or something.
You can just put it in the fridge and wake it up again when you need it.
First layer of linocut print - lemon yellow on white paper
Second layer added on top of first yellow layer - pale orange and the design of a bumblebee on a flower is beginning to emerge
A third layer of orange-pink ink has been added (on top of pale yellow and orange)
#Linocut prints in progress! I started work on this design about 2 years ago but parked it for reasons I can’t remember. Fingers crossed, its time has come.
(It’s a bumblebee on a hollyhock flower if you can’t tell yet) 🐝
Illustration of 3 swimming Pink-footed Geese. Gouache on white paper.
Illustration of two swimming male Pintails. Coloured pencil and gouache on white paper.
Illustration of a first-winter Mediterranean Gull standing in wet mud. Coloured pencil (actually almost monochrome apart from a bit of brown in the wings!) on white paper.
Illustration of 6 adult LittleGulls flying right to left. Coloured pencil on white paper.
I haven't posted anything about it for a while, but I'm still plodding on with writing and illustrating my Birds of Eyebrook Reservoir book with a view to hopefully publishing next year. Here are a few more illustrations from it. #art #WildlifeArt #birds #UKBirding

I’m hoping he can get me seeing Woodpigeons in a whole new light 👀
A male Sparrowhawk is perched on a stump in centre of picture. His brown/orange looking front, neck and cheeks, and his grey/blue back and cap is surrounded by Camillia to the left and Daffodils to the right.

Goldcrest feeding on insects amongst white damson blossom
Here’s a blast from the past: the little damson tree in our garden had an even smaller visitor back on 2 April 2020 - a goldcrest. These days, the blossom and leaves are nobbled by woodpigeons and the total yield of damsons over the years has come to less than a dozen.
The Met Office announce that Storm Dave has been named. The background photo is of the sea, looking appropriately moody. Because Dave’s like that.
Originally, of course, it was Storm UK Gold Classics.
Colour pencil drawings of Firecrest and Mallard
Colour pencil drawings of Robin and Skylark
Colour pencil drawings of Goldfinch and Starling
🦆 I’ve dusted off my colour pencils… I present to you my Small Birds collection - OK, one is a Mallard which is not really a small bird, but it’s the *drawings* (and the prices) that are small.

I’ll be adding to the collection soon - what would you like to see? ✏️
The same cassowary dad sculpture as the original post but now complete with a shiny layer of varnish.
The cassowary chick on its own in the palm of my hand, about the size of or an olive.
Different angle of cassowary dad.
Cassowary dad now glazed and glamorous.
Two small barred brown feathers from a woodcock, held by a hand in front of the container port at Felixstowe
Large pink container ship, ONE Ingenuity, being loaded/unloaded by big cranes at Felixstowe port
💨 On a day trip to Felixstowe yesterday, it was a bit breezy for seeing many birds (we saw a black redstart but that was about all). But some feathers floated past @steamjam.bsky.social and they turned out to be from a woodcock! Must have been from a peregrine’s meal somewhere in the port
I think the collective ‘tut’ from the moth nerds of the UK was probably detectable from space 😉
I’m nostalgic for the days when people could actually make a living from being an artist! 😉

As others have said, it’s a stonechat which is a close relative of the robin. Lovely birds! ebird.org/species/ston...

Black and white linocut print of marbled white butterflies on a thistle.
Here are some new prints in progress! I plan to hand-colour them using watercolour once the ink is dry. And then I’m going to try chine collé, and use thin painted paper to add colour to another batch in a different way. Linocut can be quite time-consuming so it’s good to try some new techniques.
Swarm of tiny tadpoles wriggling in pond
I think… things are working ok for me? (Here are my tadpoles)
Bluesky, we need your help to count walrus! 🦭
