Akayama, Shima, Nakamura et al. show that TFEB is regulated by at least two different regulatory mechanisms during lysosomal damage: ATG conjugation system–dependent/independent regulation. rupress.org/jcb/article/...

NEW: More than 750 current and former staff of HHS, including @CDCgov, and NIH, have signed a letter to RFKJr and members of Congress accusing him of endangering the lives of employees and the American people following the Aug 8 attack on the CDC.

NEW: The CDC shooting was much worse than initially reported. 181 rounds. 150 windows hit. Staff are furious at RFK Jr. and Trump becuz their long-running fears about anti-vax rhetoric turning deadly seem to be vindicated. @laurenweberhp.bluesky.social + Me.

Thank you all for the concern. We are all alive and OK-ish following the targeted attack on the CDC in Atlanta.
The National Institutes of Health’s budget, and structure, would be preserved under a Senate bill for the 2026 fiscal year.
New TYP lab publication led by PhD student @alexlish.bsky.social out today in @cp-cellreports.bsky.social! We present a reproducible neuron-astrocyte-microglia tri-culture model to better reproduce intercellular interactions in Alzheimer's disease. Read more here: www.cell.com/cell-reports...
Thrilled this paper is out! We solved the first cocrystal structure of FSP1 with an inhibitor (FSEN1), providing mechanistic insight & a foundation for medchem. Led by Amalia Megarioti & Sitao Zhang. A terrific collaboration with Da Jia.
Brief Skytorial!

New TYP lab paper out today in @cp-neuron.bsky.social led by PhD student @alexlish.bsky.social! We took a deep dive into the mechanisms underlying CLU in AD using innovative iPSC, mouse, and human data approaches. Be sure to give it a read!

We've been studying mechanisms of resilience that protect lysosomes from damage and wrote a review on the topic. We consider lysosomal stress and damage on a spectrum. Please help me share as this is my first post 😀 and I don't have many followers! 🙏 Open Access: www.embopress.org/doi/full/10....
Atlanta Stand Up For Science March poster, State Capital, Liberty Plaza, March 7, 2025 noon-4
Stand Up For Science next Friday (3/7)! In 2024, Georgia institutions received just over $1 billion in funding and had more than $30 billion in economic impact in GA. That's a PHENOMENAL return for tax payers- let's share that news!
Supplements: too good to be true?
The dietary supplement industry in the United States is estimated to be worth $70 billion or more. The supplement market grew by 50% from 2018 to 2020. It is estimated that 100,000 unique supplements are currently available for purchase.
The FDA requires the following disclosure be displayed on the package of all supplements: "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure, or prevent any disease." Be skeptical of any supplement that is marketed with claims contrary to that disclosure. Always consult with your primary care provider before starting or stopping any supplement regimen.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Harvard Health reports on the recent ruling that the makers of Prevagen can no longer claim their #supplement improves #memory. The author recommends being wary about supplement marketing claims, which are often false, misleading, or based on insufficient research.
Make sure you, your trainees, and anyone else who might listen to you understands what "indirects" actually are, how they are established, and what Universities contribute. H/T @rodallab.bsky.social

Donald Trump has been sworn in, and his new administration has immediately turned its sights on the NIH. The danger to US biomedical research has never been more acute. sciencebasedmedicine.org/the-attack-o...
Started off this morning emailing my Senators and Congressman about the NIH and the potential damage being done by unnecessary disruptions.
They need to hear from us loud and clear. Constituents matter to them as one of the primary purposes of a politician is to get re-elected (and its their job).
Excited to share the lab's recent publication. Granulins are critical for lysosome function and brain health to prevent neurodegeneration. Our data suggest that granulin peptides could be used to treat frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease.

Great work from Mark Sands’ lab showing a 50% reduction in lysosomal enzymes puts you at risk for Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.
Very happy to share our paper on Familial British Dementia (FBD) which is online today!
Using patient iPSC,we show the amyloidogenic peptide in this disease -ABri -is mainly produced by microglia…
Never heard of FBD? You won’t be the only one… explainer incoming!
