#LoreOutLoud I'm a full time creative, so my work hours are 9-6, Monday-Friday. I tell people I'm working those days at those times so that they don't bother me.
#AntagonistApril My villains are all pretty well respected in Tales From The Night Garden.
In a different WIP I haven't been talking about as muchβ Such Sweet Sorrow β Winnie Sinclaire (the protagonist's aunt) isn't taken seriously and is laughed out of a courtroom.

Let's go with Free Friday. Anyone else keep extensive encyclopedias on your longer worlds? Just me?
There's over 85 tabs in this document.

#PretendPanel Honestly, I try to avoid war-heavy narratives, even though I'm writing one. I like smaller scopes than hopeless, worldwide conflicts. That being said, I've read a lot of nonfiction about WW2. I think it's important to not shy away from the darkness through history or else we repeat it.
#FaveLineFriday
The 1st snippet is my favorite line from this week. The 2nd is my favorite scene so far. (It's rough, but I'll be able to polish it up on my next pass.)
#AntagonistApril We don't really hear much of anything about Nekane's second in command. If one exists, she treats them like the rest of the henchman.
François doesn't have a second in command. He "collects" people in the aviary - they're more obsession and owned, than respected.

The thunder rolled in the distance as the rain pelted the glass. It'd been raining nonstop for days, and the thunder came and went like a tide. With as loud as the angry sky was, I hadn't seen a lick of lighting since the first storm. I wondered if I would today.
#LoreOutLoud I went back and rewrote a huge portion of Aloe after spending hours on a certain section, and it solved a lot of issues in the long run. I think the overall story flows better and is much more aligned with what I want to head towards.
feel seen and like they have a place at the table, which I think this book does well. The series as a whole has become one of my biggest projects to date.
#LoreOutLoud The work I'm most proud of at the moment is probably Lemon Balm, for a few reasons.
- It was my first published work
- It has a subject that means a lot to me (standing up against oppressive systems and fighting to carve a place in the world)
I want people to read my work and - 1/2
Thank you! I figure that a lot of people are interested in the in-progress aspects, especially with AI being such an issue. I try to save sketches and in-progress things as much as possible throughout working on a project so I can show those steps.
Hey, check it out! I've been cooking up something new.
The new website is fully up and ready to poke around on! Check it out here: https://www.conquerthyfear.com or https://www.vampireantihero.com
Some pages are still bare-bones (like commissions...) But I'll get them sorted soon!

Thanks, Mary!
Today's the 15th, so my monthly short story has been released for patrons! You can read the first 1000 or so words for free. Check it out here!

I'll probably start over to refresh my memory. By then I should have more time, anyway! Hopefully.
I know, right!? I have it on hold again, but it's a 12 week wait :(

Unfortunately I've barely had time to breathe since the beginning of March, so I haven't partook in anything recently. The last thing I read was We Live Here Now by Sara Pinborough, which was pretty good, but I didn't finish it before I had to return it to the library.
Oh awesome, that's really cool!!
non-fiction! I don't often share it though. I'm an artist as well as author, so I do deep-dives on the cards when I finish designing them and how they fit the card meaning.

Lots and lots of research. The Tales From The Night Garden series spans over centuries (thanks, vampires), so I literally have an encyclopedia I've compiled of research notes, lore, character details, and prominent things that are happening in history around plot points.

I write a little bit of everything. Horror is my home, but I branch into romance and fantasy quite often. I also like to write about tarot and magic.
I'm not sure how writing horror enhances these other things, but if it's anything, it's in learning to write extreme emotion.
Hey, #HorrorWritersChat ! I'm Artemis Quinn, I write dark fantasy and supernatural horror and...
I'm alpha reading a romance novella for my dear friend @allyxwood.bsky.social this week.
#AntagonistApril In Nekane's situation, most of the henchman don't know the whole story/ are told a twisted narrative, so they're voluntold to help but most do so willingly.
For François' Aviary, they all adore him, so they look at anything they're told to do as serving him. Perfect will and trust.

I prefer to read with a physical book, but I almost never have time to. So, I spend most of my time reading via audiobook or e-book.
I love being a book cover artist. People have the best ideas!
#LoreOutLoud The part of writing that feels most natural to me is character creation and worldbuilding. Ironically, the part that challenges me the most is telling the story in a compelling way. I often find that my draft 0/1 is told linearly & without much fanfare. It takes a few passes to polish.
#AntagonistApril Definitely the protagonists. Part of what makes these antagonists the villains is that they aren't willing to give up what they can't have and, in fact, double down on the things they want once they DO get something.

Acanthus would describe themself as too emotional, a monster, and unfitting of companionship or love. (Anyone who knows them would staunchly disagree.)
Cypress would describe himself as dependable, strong, cute, and confident; after he gets his scars, would add scary to it.
