Ancient artifacts hint at earliest protowriting Geometric shapes on 40,000-year-old bone and ivory suggest early European Homo sapiens long possessed cognitive tools for language

This 38,000-year-old Adorant figurine from a cave in the Swabian Alps contains symbols that may encode similar amounts of information as the earliest forms of written language. https://scim.ag/4rdysad

Vaccines have health benefits you didn’t even know about. Get your flu shots yearly, and shingles shots as soon as you are eligible.

Studying neutrophils is not easy. Exciting to see that they can acquire longterm changes associated with epigenetic reprogramming.

Excited to see this paper out. Durability is the holy grail of vaccine design. 💉 Here, we made the unexpected discovery that megakaryocytes, the cells that produce wound-healing platelets, can support long lasting vaccine immunity! #BiologyIsWild! 🧬🔬 Glad I could be part of this wonderful team!

CDC just confirmed the first severe case of #H5N1 in the US in a patient in Louisiana. This virus seems to be the same genotype D1.1 that is spreading in birds at the moment (so not the cattle genotype B3.13) that severely sickened the teenager in Canada. #IDsky 🧪

Good point! Will definitely highlight the issues that still remain around using LLMs for coding.

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

I guess one of the main worries I gathered from blog posts and other sources is that students would not be able to judge more complex code snippets as they lack the experience and then just copy without knowing what the code is doing. Any idea how to prevent that?

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

So that would argue for introducing LLMs later on when students already have a good idea of the basics?

Thanks, Bryan. Yes, the ability to explain code is definitely a huge advantage vs a vignette!

Calling all bioinformatics experts: I’m considering incorporating LLMs (like ChatGPT) as coding assistants into a beginners class on omics analysis & applied bioinformatics. Are they a help or a crutch for early learners? What’s your take on the risks/benefits? #Bioinformatics #LLMs #CodingEducation

This is really horrific. These single cell reference atlases are widely used as is to train all kinds of models! This is one of the reasons I've constantly harping about uniform reprocessing & extremely careful QC of large atlases. 1/

Fascinating findings: Immune system disruptions in cancer patients can persist over a decade post-treatment. We still know so little about the long-term impact of therapies on immunity.

Hi John, thanks for your help and sorry to bother you. Indeed, on my end I don’t show up in the starter pack (I do see my account in other starter packs though, so it should generally be possible for my account to be added). Anything I can do to help/fix this?
