We are excited to share our new preprint which is now available to read on biorXiv: doi.org/10.64898/202... 🎉🎉🎉
This work is the result of fantastic teamwork! #Integrative structural cell biology

Our findings reveal a unique splice variant and a trapped substrate intermediate never observed before, offering new insights into proteolytic catalysis. We also show proteasomes cluster from the post-meiotic spermatid stage, with striking human-mouse differences in proteasome organisation!
We discovered giant membrane-less islands of proteasomes in human sperm nuclei, containing 20S and 20S-PA200 populations! We solved their in situ structure at sub-nanometer resolution (up to 6.8 Å) and in vitro at near-atomic resolution (1.8 Å)!
We are thrilled to share our new pre-print on the molecular anatomy of nuclear proteasome in human sperm cells! #In-cellcryo-ET + #SPA + #LM! @piotrkolata.bsky.social @a-dsantos.bsky.social, @tomdendooven.bsky.social!! doi.org/10.64898/202...

I’m excited to announce that I will be starting my research group on computational enzyme design at the Generative Biology Institute, Oxford, UK (@eitoxford.bsky.social)! PhD applications are open, deadline is Jan 8th (www.chem.ox.ac.uk/genbio-dtp). Email kiarash.jamali@eit.org with any questions!
Very sad news, John Gurdon has died.
A developmental biologist's developmental biologist, Nobel prize winner
His work is the foundation of much of today's dev & stem cell bio.
An inspiration to many, including me. Always asking questions & wanting the answers

Many congratulations!! Really great work!
We’re looking for a Research Support Officer to join @matteoall.bsky.social’s group, working with @piotrkolata.bsky.social to investigate nuclear-cytoskeletal coupling in mammalian cells using #cryoEM, #cryoET & other biochemical approaches.

Also check out the work of @tzviyazbm.bsky.social on the same topic!
It was a lot of fun and a tremendous synergy of intents dear @rezamehdipour.bsky.social! Thank you
We discovered that the SUN5-Nesprin3 LINC complex forms a hexagonal lattice at the sperm HTCA, which radically reshapes the nuclear membrane locally!
Our findings also provide the structural basis for understanding the severe ASS (Acephalic Sperm Syndrome) male infertility phenotype.
This work is the result of a fantastic collaboration with@matteoall.bsky.social!

New paper from my group rdcu.be/eoaRr "Trinucleotide substrates under pH–freeze–thaw cycles enable open-ended exponential RNA replication by a polymerase ribozyme" in Nature Chemistry — great collaboration with attwaterlab.uk.
“The Website” is here! It can be intimidating getting into analysis of #CryoET data, and software is evolving all the time👩💻🚀. @phaips.vd.st & @florentwaltz.bsky.social put our lab’s workflows into an online guide. We hope this helps lower the bar to joining #TeamTomo. Feedback much appreciated! 🧪🧶🧬🔬
