New Publication Alert:
We are back with one more publication in our Fusarium pathobiome series, in #Frontiers_in_Microbiology.
We demonstrate the genetic potential and the growth effect of a stable core microbiome of Fusarium wilt.
Thanks to all the collaborators.

One of my absolute highlights being presented at the #IS-MPMI2025 congress this year. Congratulations to everyone involved.
Thanks @plantdisease.bsky.social and everyone who participated in the discussion.

Congrats Carolyn Young!
My first #APS #PlantHealth meeting was in 2022, and since then I've had the tradition of taking a selfie with Carolyn Young. This year it was more special with Carolyn' APS fellow award. Congrats!!!
🌱 At #PlantHealth2025, we’re going beyond pathogens

Two of our undergraduate summer interns presented their work at the #IPMB2025 #PLPM poster session.
Congratulations Victor Fraga and Saurav Mathur for your hardwork throughout your summer #REEU.

Out of curiosity, how does it compare to Mendeley?
What did we find:
- Microbial dysbiosis often precedes disease symptoms
- Certain beneficial bacteria decline before the pathogen becomes dominant
- More importantly, the pathobionts in the hyphosphere can be distinguished as a potentially distinct pathobiome within the dysbiosis community
What we did: We examined the microbial communities in banana plant endosphere and soils, and compared it to the microbiota directly associated with the #Fusarium pathogen's #hyphosphere.
Just Published!
Our latest research is now online in #PhytobiomesJounal @phytobiomesjournal.bsky.social : "Differentiating Microbial Dysbiosis and the Pathobiome of Banana" apsjournals.apsnet.org/doi/10.1094/...
I wonder whether we should give up emails and go back to paper, pen, and snail mail. We are in a Jevons Paradox situation with emails.
I was warned, but I never took it seriously. Most of my time is spent deleting emails.
Is the rise in the number of fake profiles in the last couple of days on bluesky an indication of the app's growth?
Actinomycetes will always be my favorite!
Tenure Track Faculty Opening at Carnegie Mellon in Decarbonization, Climate Change Adaptation, & Related Fields. Please share airb your networks or consider applying. One reason I left a think tank for CMU is because CMU has a lot of folks working on energy & climate. 🔌💡 apply.interfolio.com/154848
"One of these days I will make a #phylogenomic tree of all trees used as #Christmas trees, and make a 3D model of it with each branch from the wood of those trees" - my thought every year in Nov/Dec for the past 15 years. Maybe someone has already done this. Have they?
This is one of my kitties, DJ. Looks like he might be her brother.
New paper from our group! We found that maize plants from push-push fields had a higher relative abundance of metabolites toxic to insect herbivores. This suggests that maize plants growing with companion plants are "stronger" than maize plants growing alone.

I am looking for 1-2 new master's students in the summer/fall 2025 or spring 2026. Research can either tie to our current work on phloem physiology or plant phenology. Please email me if you want to know more!
I'm so excited to announce that my department is now hiring TWO ECOLOGISTS at the Assistant Professor Level.
We will be really excited to substantially expand research in ecology in our EEOB Department at UCR.
