While it sucks, it is a relief to know it's not just me, and it's not anything I have done 'wrong', which is the constant paranoia with a chronic health condition. Suggested reasons for it include
-barometric changes
-temperature changes
-daylight changes
-general increase in cold/flu viruses

Outdoor nature scene with river running through the middle and trees with leaves turning orange and gold lining it. It's a sunny day with a clear blue sky
I love Autumn, I love the colours, I love clear cold days, I love cosy jumpers and pumpkin spice.
But I have been really struggling with my health the last few weeks for no obvious reason... then I learned 'October slide' is a regular thing for people with chronic illness. Great.

Publication alert! β¨ Our recent paper in Ecology & Evolution addresses how to make conferences more inclusive. We collected observational and experimental data during Q&A sessions at the Behaviour 2023 congress hosted by Bielefeld University, and circulated a survey among conference attendees [1/4]
Paper ACCEPTED- in time for me to mention that it's been accepted when I present on it at my conference next week.

A fluffy labradoodle dog stood on a small bench in a woodland looking towards the camera with his mouth open so he looks like he is grinning
I have managed to graduate from my PhD and start a new job (part-time) as a postdoc, which there were times when I never thought would be possible. His happy face brightens my day, he gets me out and walking when I need to, on my bad days makes me laugh and comes and cuddles me when I need to rest π
A golden labradoodle dog standing in green countryside on a sunny day with his tongue out looking happy
We have built up our walking together from being only able to manage 10mins a day to being able to easily walk 30-40 mins and even some longer walks without collapsing the next day, which seemed impossible a year ago! Building up our walking routine has given me so much more freedom and positivity

It's already been a whole year since Zephyr joined our family, and while he has bought a lot more chaos and mischief into our lives he has been the most incredible support in helping me manage my ME/CFS.

An infographic illustrating the findings of our new paper on the cultural ecosystem services provided by wetlands. The infographic features, at its centre, a stylized drawing of a wetland (featuring reeds, water, a small wading bird, and emerging insects). Arranged around this central image are bubbles that state the percentage of papers that we reviewed that reported information on different types of cultural ecosystem services associated with wetlands. These include categories such as recreation and tourism, inspiration, sense of place, aesthetic value, and bequest. The infographic is titled "Cultural ecosystem services (CES)", and a subtitle mentions that we found evidence of CES provided by wetlands in 175 countries and territories worldwide.
