‘Fish tagging - the good the bad and the unknown’…well from what I saw 👀 it was all good 👍! Thanks to all 13 speakers, and 7 poster presenters who brought this theme session @ices.marine.bsky.social #ICESASC2025 to life, with standing room only your research reached far and wide!
For anyone online or who missed the @icesmarine.bsky.social Expert Group poster session, feel free to come find me at #ICESASC2025 or message me with any questions 🙋♀️. I’m biased of course but after 16-years I can say the ICES Working Group on Elasmobranch Fishes is really a fantastic group 😉!
Theme session D 🐟🏷️ ‘Fish Tagging - the good, the bad and the unknown’ #ICESASC2025 @icesmarine.bsky.social off to a flying start this morning with methods and collaboration covered but join us NOW for behaviour and migration, assessments, management and conservation sub-themes!
1 day until Theme session D at #ICESASC25 @icesmarine.bsky.social exploring ‘Fish tagging - the good, the bad and the unknown’ but if you can’t wait until then join us in person for the ‘WKTAG - where now?’ meet up @3:30pm (back of the marquee) with @piasch.bsky.social and Hans Jakob Olesen

Good morning from Klaipėda and welcome to the first day of #ICESASC25! 🌊
4 days of science, collaboration, and innovation, including:
🔹18 theme sessions
🔹5 network sessions
🔹5 events dedicated to early-career scientists

Welcome!
The FSBI Medal Winners session starts with a talk from Colin Adams. Colin, previous President of the FSBI, has been awarded this year's Beverton Medal. Given the FSBI's focus on supporting ECRs, Colin draws on his wealth of experience, with a talk titled "Surviving a career in research" #FSBI2025
This year's FSBI medal is awarded to @mjjuanjorda.bsky.social. Maria talks to us today about what tuna have taught her throughout her career. Some very useful lessons learned and advice for the ECRs in the audience! #FSBI2025
Our final medal award winner is Oliver Crimmen, of the Nautral History Museum (London), who was awarded this year's Le Cren Medal. With over 50 years of experience, some species are now present in the collection but extinct in the wild, which gives much pause for thought #FSBI2025
Check out the editorial for the Special Issue: "Advances in telemetry approaches and technologies applied to fish ecology and management", which sets the scene and rational for this exciting collection of papers. doi.org/10.1111/jfb....

Today marks World Wildlife Day, a vital reminder of the importance of protecting our planet’s wildlife. 🌏
For over 60 years, Wildlife Photographer of the Year has helped us see our natural world through a different lens, showcasing its beauty and the necessity to preserve it.
Happy World Wildlife Day!
Over the years, ETN members have tracked an astounding 147 species, with our current top 20 showcased here.
Doing so has taught us so much about the wildlife that surrounds us. Let's take a look at some of the things we've learned about aquatic wildlife using telemetry...

Abstract submission is now open for #FSBI2025! Deadline: 𝟭𝟱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱. Excitingly, it will be our first joint symposium with @ifmfish.bsky.social, "Turning Science into Strategy: Advancing Fish Conservation and Management". 7 - 11 July 2025, Belfast. More info, here: fsbi.org.uk/symposium-2025/
Illegal marine wildlife trade is complex, cross-border and undermines attempts at protecting biodiversity in our ocean. Only deep cross-organisational collaboration will allow it to be tackled. An excellent start this week with colleagues from UK and across ASEAN #maritimeIWT25 #CefasScience
