2026 is shaping up to be another year with lots of new research!
Currently a lot of attention is going to get people to preregister, to check preregistrations, and noting deviations. But the most important step will be evaluating the impact of the deviations! There is almost no work on this. Good topic for a young metascientist!
Our #openaccess paper on the Tree of Life methodology in a UK secure forensic inpatient setting is out in #CurrentPsychlogy

Poster: Rethinking Count Data in Psychology
As part of this, we focus on why Negative Binomial Models Belong in Investigative Interviewing Research, and do so by reanalysing data from the orginal Aysmetric Information Management ‘AIM’ technique doi.org/10.1016/j.ja...
The Perspectives on Scientific Error (#PSE8) conference was great - I will be coming back.
It was nice meeting so many new people, and getting the opportunity to discuss statistical, philosophical, and meta-scientific issues of scientific error.
This was a banger of a talk.
Insights from the #PSE8 conference
Day 2: I was particularly struck by a presentation from Prof Leif Nelson on the detection of problematic data.
I wonder how many of us have came across problematic papers - or datasets and don’t what to do!?

I think it depends on the journal. I’m an editor for @iiirg-iirp.bsky.social & we don’t currently have a IF. We are diamond access & not part of any of the big publishers. This means our community acts as reviews, editors and editorial board members. I see no reason why we would reject replications.
What if journals adopted a different model? Imagine if, alongside accepting an original research article, a journal also committed in principle to considering well-designed replications of that work. Such an approach could strengthen reliability, and incentivise transparency.
Insights from the Perspectives on Scientific Error (#PSE8) conference
🧵 Day 1: what a thought provoking morning.
Replication remains one of the cornerstones of scientific progress, yet replication studies are still notoriously difficult to publish. Many never make it into print at all.
Everything is ready for the Perspectives on Scientific Error conference that starts tomorrow in Leiden! I look forward to hanging out with the mix of metascientists, philosophers of science, and statisticians! So many old friends will be there (and hopefully some new ones)! #PSE8

WhatsApp responded to the findings of our new Cambridge Trust and Safety index:
"WhatsApp said in a statement that it welcomed the research into an industry it said was "aiming to mislead internet services."
Unsurprisingly, X did not return messages seeking comment

I'm privileged to be able to teach psychology to the Forensic Science students in their final year at @UWEBristol . If you're considering studying with us at the, I can wholeheartedly recommend this course!!

Our discussions were around toxicology, changes in legislation, confirmation bias in the courtroom, typical errors that crime authors make, and that is to give a few examples! If you’re in the Bristol areas I would recommend these ‘Desert Island Books’ events.
