When you find litter from the 1980s in eroding sand dune cliffs with > 1.5 meter sand above it, it turns a nice weekend walk into an even nicer spontaneous science endeavour and you (almost) catch yourself thanking those who so carelessly littered....๐ค๐๐ #anthropogenic #brittasbay #geomorphology
Wonderful to see our students become engaged thanks to the education we provide them with. A particular credit goes to @martinsokol.bsky.social for his finance and climate justice module. Please sign our students' petition!

Very excited about our first harvest from our new garden. ๐
Happy Summer Solstice
Let us remember that nature is more than a 'service', time is more than money, people are more than 'tasks', and love, care and respect has to underpin all, if we are to release the creativity we need to act collectively in a way that restores, nourishes and lasts.
Very much looking forward to speaking at this event (albeit remotely) and to explaining why we must find ways of resourcing continuous monitoring of our interconnected terrestrial and marine environments within the #coastal #seascape.
Highest education is one of the most important assets of a functioning democracy and of a society that can develop pathways for a just transition into am uncertain future. In support of our colleagues at Newcastle University, please consider signing this petition: chng.it/VPftNvH6Bz
Always love stepping back into my childhood memories, but I definitely did not appreciate the beauty of #Antwerpen's train station back then. A great start to the #ECSA #Estuarine #Restoration meeting today with very important key messages from Patrick Meire: restore processes, not patterns!
Key message today from Ariel Brunner @birdlifeglobal.bsky.social at the "Let nature do the job" meeting in Brussels: #naturerestoration is not a cost but an investment as we simply have no other option to secure a liveable future.
...and Arndt Hampe reminding us of what "letting nature do the job" means...
Clearly this demands (a) good data and insight into complex natural systems and (b) trusting and allowing nature to respond dynamically to do what it does best (where we can do so while protecting societal values)...

Very excited to be in Brussels today for the "When nature can do the job" policy event, introduced perfectly by Dr Hilde Eggermont, Director @inbo.be, highlighting importance of science, community involvement, and full recognition of benefits in putting action into place.
Another great @tcddublin.bsky.social #Geography Seminar today by our very own Dr Pete Akers, highlighting the use of oxygen isotope tracing for monitoring #environmental change and all the complex human-environment system responses to extreme meteorological events.
What does it mean for us to let nature do the job? ๐ค And specifically to let nature protect us from #coastal hazards of #erosion and #flooding?

And the importance of a feminist approach?: it is founded on quality, agency, critiquing structures of power, collaborative, democratic, reflexive, courageous, imaginative, rebellious, and resistive.
Wonderful closing remarks of Ailbhe Smyth at end of the #Climate Justice Uni Union (www.climatejusticeuniversitiesunion.org): The importance of standing up to bullies who stand in the way of what Universities stand for and of art and creativity to achieve a fairer future in and beyond #academia.
Wonderful to see our @tcddublin.bsky.social geographers in action and out where they should be - in the field! Let us hope we can find a way of working with our lack of resources and timetable flexibility to ensure our students get the field experience they need. ๐ค
Fantastic day on the bog, measuring peat depth with our 3rd year Geography students @imcoasts.bsky.social
There's a common path in the development of authoritarian or totalitarian regimes, regardless of whether they are overseen by Catholic Inquisitors, Protestant enforcers, monarchists, fascists, Nazis, Stalinists, Maoists ....
First they eliminate words.
Then they eliminate people.

Our #REWRITERS made their mark during the poster presentation & talk sessions, showcasing how we can integrate innovative SRS solutions for #coastal #rewilding
Time for my first post on this platform, with thanks to all those great people who have already linked up by following. Here is a hopeful image to capture the moment. Looking fwd to lots of truthful, honest, fair and interesting engagement on here. #geography #coasts #climate #nature #leadership
