#OneGoodThing that happened yesterday was that I was able to swing by Binders and grab some fresh pens for the #10kflowers Project.

The Ten Thousand Flowers Project

The Ten Thousand Flowers Project started in the year 2011.
I'd obtained some fine-point markers for an art project, then found I couldn't use them because the points weren't fine enough. I decided to draw flowers on index cards and give them away to people, because I wanted a way to be generous with the world, given that being generous with money wasn't an option.

Why ten thousand? Short answer--hypomania. Longer answer--I knew when I got it in my head that I wanted to give flowers away, I would need some kind of finish line to motivate me. I tried on different numbers for size, and when I did ten thousand, it felt right.

Did I mention, was hypomanic at the time? The fact that I was cranking out flowers at the rate of ten a day is a big hint that I was. Then the Wheel of Bipolar turned and put me back into depression and I was lucky to get one a day done. I'm up to two each session now, and i'm trying to be a little better about drawing and posting these from here on in.

If you would like one of these, simply send your mailing address to free@10kflowers.com and I'll get one in the mail.for you. I will not use your address for any other purpose than sending you your flower. You can also follow the #10kflowers hashtag to see my progress.

I’m way behind on my #FlowerOfTheWeek for my #10kflowers project, so let’s play a game:

1st person to email the address in my profile gets the flower they want in the mail for free. 2nd gets to pick from the 2 left. 3rd gets the last one. 4th, 5th, 6th, &c. get a surprise flower. No charge for any.

This is a simple drawing of a vine rising up from the grass in a sort of sine wave that isn’t held up by anything. On the vine are nine blossoms showing five petals each, alternating between red and blue, along with green leaves along the vine as well. At the bottom, it is signed “Sheila! 2025” in the same blue as the petals. This particular species is not effortless to draw, but the end result is always satisfying to me.

I know your scroll is probably full of doom right now, so here’s a scribbly flower to give you a tiny break. 1526 of #10kflowers, drawn on November 26, 2025. #FlowerOfTheWeek #bloomscrolling

Ten index cards laid out in two rows of five on a gray tile floor. Each card has a flower drawn on it in fine point Sharpie. The art style has a folk-art quality, since I can't actually draw all that well, but I don't let that stop me.

Yes! I'm doing something called The Ten Thousand Flowers Project, wherein I draw flowers on index cards with my limited ability and give them away to people for free. I periodically post them here with the tag #10kflowers. Here's some of them.

Not only do I have a website, I have several. I only used Threads if I had a long stretch of time to kill, because I knew it was designed to keep me hooked. I'll stay away from it from here on in. Keeping Instagram for now because I want a place to post my #10kflowers, but that may change.

I found a neat Chrome app called Sky Follower Bridge that linked me to accounts I followed on Xitter that are also here. Yay!

Am I deleting my Xitter account? No, not yet. I don't like the idea of my username being scooped up by a spambot. And I still want to post my #10Kflowers there & everywhere.

It’s been a while since I’ve done this. I think I may take it up again as a coping mechanism.

When I explain my #10kflowers project to people, I often tell them "I can't really draw, but I don't let that stop me."
