A fantastic pair of auspicious antique Chinese export silver Buddhist wedding bracelets. Entirely handmade hand repoussage (each is a little different), and with incised details at fronts - each is 3.75” wide at top, and fits up to a 7.5” wrist presently, and the pair weigh over 5 ounces!

A complex design featuring at center a Buddha sitting on a lotus flower which represents purity, enlightenment, and detachment from the material world, mirroring how the flower blooms untainted from muddy water. The seated Buddha has a hood of snakes symbolizing divine protection, deep spiritual wisdom, and transformation. This imagery is rooted in the Buddhist legend of Muchalinda, the Naga (serpent) King who protected the Buddha from a violent storm for seven days following his enlightenment. At either side of Buddha are roaring dragons (unseen in this photo) which symbolize power, strength, prosperity, and good luck.

A strange and alluring vintage 1950s 60s handmade 900 silver Tribal modernist Ritual Figure design brooch. Likely a one of a kind, and such an unusual design! A standing figure with elongated stick-like arms and hands, one hand holding a small child, and the other holding a baton or wand. I'm guessing some sort of ritualistic figure, but I can't say for sure. Looks African to me, but could possibly be Latin American pre-Columbian revival as well. The figure is patinated black in the recesses and polished bright on the raised areas for contrast. A striking piece!! Measures 2-3/8" tall by 1-3/8" wide, and weighs 20.6 grams total. It's quite heavy for the size! Marked at back as shown, "0.900" for 900 silver which is just a hair under the sterling standard. Excellent vintage condition.

A rare vintage 1960s handmade 900 silver modernist pre-Columbian Figure design pin/pendant by internationally acclaimed artist Oswaldo Guayasamin (1919-1999) of Ecuador. Sometimes referred to as "the Picasso of the Andes", Guayasamin is an internationally recognized artist and sculptor of the highest caliber, and his jewelry is wearable sculpture! His artwork is held in major museums around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. From the look of it, I am guessing that the figure on this pin/pendant is some kind of ceremonial figure wearing elaborate headdress and holding various implements of a ceremonial nature. I have a fair amount of experience with the jewelry of Guayasamin, and this is the first time I have had this design! An unusual and no doubt rare design, this is a great example of Guayasmin putting his modernist spin on the ancient arts of Ecuador! Measures 2-1/8" including bail by 1-1/2" wide, and weighs 20.4 grams total. Marked at back as shown with stamped marks, "Guayasmin Ecuador" and "900" for 900 silver which was the silver standard for Ecuador and Peru for that time period. (See my article about the artist in the archive section of Modern Silver magazine online from 2012 - though Modern Silver is no longer online directly, you can still read the article using the Wayback machine, an internet archive - see information on Wikipedia.) Excellent vintage condition.

A striking vintage 1950s handmade 900 silver pre Hispanic inspired modernist Figures brooch from either Peru or Ecuador. The design is of three pre-Hispanic female figures, likely goddesses, thru the prism of 20th century modernism. Nicely detailed and beautifully hand-crafted! Measures 1-7/8" by 1-1/2" and weighs 0.6 ounce or about 17 grams total. Marked at back "900" for 900 silver in a rectangular reserve with pointed ends. As I note above, this item is most likely from either Peru or Ecuador, but without a maker mark or country mark it's impossible to say for sure. Excellent vintage condition.

A big pair of vintage 1960s 70s handmade 900 silver geometric modernist pierced earrings by designer/metalsmith Antonio Belgiorno of Buenos Aires, Argentina. A minimalist modernist geometric design that tapers slightly from top to bottom, and is open at center the length of the earrings, and with a slight curve at the ends giving the design dimensionality! Belgiorno opened his iconic design jewelry store in Buenos Aires in 1931, and he created many outstanding designs over the decades! Unfortunately, no date marks were used, so circa dating can be a bit tricky, but these earrings looks very much in the 1960s 70s modernist style so prevalent at the time. The earrings measure 2.5" long by about 1/2" wide at bottom. The pair weigh 6.5 grams total, and are light and comfortable to wear all day long. Marked at backs as shown, "A. Belgiorno Argentina" and "900" in a diamond-shaped reserve. These are his most common marks used later in his career. Tested and guaranteed to be exactly as desired. Excellent vintage condition.

A big and bold vintage 1940s 50s handmade 900 silver moderne statement ring by designer/metalsmith Antonio Belgiorno of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Belgiorno opened his iconic design jewelry store in Buenos Aires in 1931, and he created many outstanding designs over the decades! Unfortunately, no date marks were used, so circa dating can be a bit tricky, but this ring looks very much in the late Art Deco style, sometimes called Retro Moderne, that was popular in the 1940s WWII wartime era and for a short while after the war. This ring makes a statement! Measures 1" long at top by 7/8" wide, and rises 5/8" above the finger. The band is adjustable and presently is about a size 7 US, but can be opened up or closed down to fit anywhere from about a size 5 to a size 9 in my opinion. Marked inside as shown with the Belgiorno "AB" with a crown mark with "Buenos Aires", and "A. Belgiorno" as well. Not marked for metal content, but Belgiorno was known to use 900 silver which was the silver standard for most of South America at the time, and still to this day. He also used sterling, but that was for items intended for export to the US or the UK and the Commonwealth countries, and those items would have been marked 'sterling' or '925'. Tested and guaranteed to be exactly as desired. It's not uncommon to find his jewelry without metal markings as it wasn't required in Argentina at the time for items not intended for export, which leads me to believe that this ring was purchased in Buenos Aires in the 1940s directly from Belgiorno. Excellent vintage condition.

A rare set of antique Qing Dynasty period to early 20th century Chinese handmade 900 silver filigree and carved mother of pearl Mask brooch pin with matching screw back earrings. So much character and such a strange allure! I'm guessing some kind of protective deity which were often shown with fierce faces to scare off bad spirits. As it was intended for a woman, I'm guessing a protective deity for the home, or to protect the children. No doubt made by ethnic Chinese from one of the countries around the south China sea, and could be Chinese, straits Chinese, Vietnamese, Philippine, Malaysian, etc. The brooch measures 1-1/2" by 1-1/4", the earrings measure 3/4" by 5/8" and the set weighs 14.4 grams total. Unmarked as was often the case for items not made for export in that part of the world and at that time. Tested and guaranteed to be as described. Excellent vintage condition.
