I love how so many sessions connected back to each other; many speakers simultaneously acknowledged the difficulties of solitary, intellectual work while also emphasizing the need for accountability and regular self-assessment.

Loving #ACESVCON24 so far! My biggest takeaways have been to be kind to myself and to take the time to reevaluate my business each year. Editors are such kind, interesting people (with super-cute pets), and we really aren't secretly judging your grammar.

My Friday at #ACESVCON24: freelance editor website tips, memorable mistakes (on the parts of editors, not clients/writers, it's not mean y'all!!), & editing sex scenes. Yesterday was so busy, am ready for a quieter conference day.

Errata for my #ACESVCON24 session that attendees have kindly alerted me to:

1) There actually *is* a way to accept/reject changes in moved text (cycle through them with the Previous/Next buttons)
2) With the Compare tool, you can choose to have it show character-level changes instead of word-level

I was on my 1st #ACESVCON24 meetup, w another technical editor, and we were lamenting that we had too much editing work to join the online conference! :( #FOMO #AmEditing But we had a fun meetup talking about #AI tools for editing, #PlainLanguage, #WebAccessibility 508 compliance!

My Day 2 #ACESVCON24 highlight was watching my Mom (sitting next to me) watch my picture come up & hear my name as a recipient of the 2024 Holden Diversity Fellowship. I am the woman & professional I am today starting with my parents. My Dad would be proud.

Clear Communication with Microsoft Word's Track Changes

I just finished my #ACESVCON24 session on clear communication with Microsoft Word's Track Changes, so it's time for me to start plugging my self-paced, hands-on course that builds on what I shared in my talk! It launches on October 4, and it's open for preorders with a ✨20% discount.✨

Watching Erin Maher's presentation and she pointed out that Microsoft probably doesn't consider the needs of editors because they don't consider Word to be *for* us.

Not wrong, but wild to hear pointed out in consideration of Word being the publishing industry's standard.
