Responding to the 1534 #ActOfSupremacy and related changed in the English Church, #PopePaulIII on #ThisDayInHistory in 1538 finally got around the #excommunicating #HenryVIII, the misogynistic prick of a king who made himself head of #ChurchOfEngland to get a pointless divorce.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1534, the first #ActOfSupremacy was passed by the English parliament. This made King #HenryVIII head of the new #Anglican Church, freezing out the pope and Roman Catholicism. The new faith was basically "Catholic Lite"; the issue was entirely political.

The Act of Uniformity was signed by Queen Elizabeth I, & at the same time the Act of Supremacy was given royal assent making the monarch Head of the Church again.
