I read this book about 25 yrs ago. It is about a young lad who is released from Borstal & becomes involved in a gang, set in Radford, Nottingham. #AlanSillitoe wrote the forward. . What is more impressive is the author, Pat McGrath was only 14 yrs old when he wrote this book in 1966. Great read😊

A preview of one of several articles that I will be adding to the Kitchen Sink Realism / British Social Realism category on my site. "The Ragman's Daughter" written by #AlanSillitoe & adapted into the film in 1972. Superb short story & equally brilliant film.

Really enjoying #SaturdaynightandSundaymorning by #AlanSillitoe Despite being raised in a Nottinghamshire w/c community I've never read it, but the dialogue is spot on and exactly how my miners dad used to speak. Top stuff.

"the long-distance run of an early morning makes me think that every run like this is a life- a little life, I know- but a life as full of misery and happiness and things happening as you can ever get really around yourself."
