Had a fantastic time at #AllDayHey @heypresents.com in Leeds. Ninth year it's been running and I finally got to attend! Was a real pleasure to give a talk here. I'm already looking forward to returning this time next year to see folks at the next one! Best part of events like this is the community.

Such a great day at #AllDayHey conference in Leeds today topped off by the brilliant @katiefenn.bsky.social live coding with Web MIDI API to recreate a Daft Punk classic! 🤖 Thanks to everyone who made such a fantastic event happen 👏🏻
Midi is an open standard just like the web. Its creators have never collected any fees for creating it, just like how Sir Tim Burners-Lee hasn't either. They go hand in hand. #AllDayHey
So after we recreated a Daft Punk song, in conclusion, the API does require domain knowledge and sadly Apple object to supporting it.
But this is a great API. This is for the hobbyists, the experimenters, the creatives. Katie isn't know about MIDI before this talk. #AllDayHey

You can create an oscillator in the web midi API and use what's called a gain node to turn it off and on. If you don't do this, it won't shut up!
You can also set the frequency. And then turn all this stuff on a keyboard down event. #AllDayHey
Oscillators can make noises out of various kinds of waves like sin waves, sawtooth waves. It does feel like we're listening to old video game soundtracks. #AllDayHey
We are now seeing numbers appear on the screen affected by all the different dials and buttons on a synthesiser. Midi is designed to be intuitive. #AllDayHey
