I was watching Star Trek SNW last night and it still always bothers me the way they have such a rigid military command structure. I live in a classless, moneyless utopia and I'm still expected to scrape and bow and call someone sir? gtfoπ

Hope everyone is looking forward S3 of Strange New Worlds? ππ»
As a Talosian looks on, Vina, and a renewed and completely healthy (-appearing) Pike walk hand in hand into the open elevator that will take them down to the Talosian civilization below the surface. Thanks to the Talosians' perception-altering mind powers, they both can live their lives with the illusion that they are free of the limitations that would otherwise plague their damaged and broken bodies. Possibly more importantly, Vina no longer has to be alone.

=TOS 1x12: The Menagerie (Part II)=
Pike only said "no" bc of his morality; he'd never endanger others just for his own sake.
But to Spock...giving Pike his autonomy back? Reuniting him w/ Vina? It's all just...logical.
"Chris, do you want to go there?" "...[beep]" π₯Ί
Various Starfleet captains and admirals sit down to watch the very first Star Trek episode made, in an attempt to understand why Spock basically stole the Enterprise and Captain Pike to return him to the Talosians

=TOS 1x11: The Menagerie (Part I)=
Such a brilliant way of re-incorporating the unaired first pilot into the series! Especially like the part where Kirk is confused "how" this footage is possible, while they all essentially watch an episode of Star Trek lol

Hey my wonderful #Trekkie brothers, sisters, Trans & non-binary siblings ππ» it's the first #TrekTuesday of #Pride π³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈ this year.
I hope you're being awesome & celebrating infinite diversity in infinite combinations.
Let's be the best part of this franchise we love.

There's only 15 years between this and the original series episode featuring Khan.

A doctored image from a doctored video of Kirk on the bridge during a crisis. This frame seems to show Kirk hitting the "Jettison Pod" button (and thus killing LCDR Finney) while the ship is still on Yellow Alert, seemingly before the emergency has turned life-or-death (what the Red Alert would signal). Kirk maintains his innocence--that he went to Red Alert well before jettisoning the pod, and that he had given all the time necessary to Finney, and the some, for him to have survived. In reality, Finney did not die, and was the perpetrator who doctored the evidence "post-mortem".

=TOS 1x20: Court Martial=
Great case made for independent & redundant records and logs, utilizing different technology (...basically the 3-2-1 rule of data backups!)
But either way, that data, or the software that analyzes it, SHOULD NOT BE CLANDESTINELY MODIFIABLE!!
On Taurus II, an anthropoid (hairy, ape-like indigenous species to this planet) is heaving a giant boulder above its head to slam down on top of the Galileo shuttlecraft, which is currently disabled. The remaining crew are trapped inside.

Anyone who says "Star Trek is only about pure Logic" hasn't seen this ep.
Spock's confusion over his logic failing is fascinating!
Not surprising: Spock's rationality re: death seen as callous/uncaring. Good leadership lesson for him.
Kirk stands over Lenore Karidian, who kneels above her father Anton Karidian, dead by an accidental phaser shot by her own hand (she was aiming for Kirk). This is after it is revealed that Karidian was in fact Kodos (the mass murderer), and Lenore admitted going about killing those who could recognize him.

=TOS 1x13: The Conscience of the King=
Very well-told story; the twist at the end got me! Such a tragedy.
Love how this ep shows Trek has always been deep in classical theater!
(Kirk, couldn't you have hidden a guard in Engineering for Lt. Riley's sake, though?!)
A bloodied and diseased Captain Kirk (off-screen except for his hand and sleeve) holds the hand of a young boy who literally has blood on his little hands after taking part in a group beating of the Grup (Grown-Up) Captain Kirk. About a dozen and a half other kids stand possibly/mostly ashamedly in the background. These children are actually hundreds of years old, but when they hit puberty, they contact the same disease that killed off all the "Grups" 100s of years ago. (Also these are all kids?!! Some of these faces look *old*)

=TOS 1x8: Miri=
A wonderful pre-enactment of the anti-science response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It's fantastic--they even managed to hire the same kids whose Boomer cohort would later, as adults, have the same fingers-in-ears response to science & race for a vaccine!
Spock performing a Mind Meld on Dr. Simon Van Gelder. First Mind Meld on screen, if I'm not mistaken! Unlike the classic three-point touch on the side of the face, Spock's hands are just everywhere on this fella's face. Neck, cheeks, temples...it's a lot.
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=TOS 1x9: Dagger of the Mind=
Wow, who would have guessed that the mental-institution-slash-penal-colony's psychotropic memory-erasing device-slash-room is actually harming people? If only we could have known!!
Huge respect for "A cage is a cage", Bones.
Ruk, a seemingly 8-foot-tall, bald, almost monstrous-looking (think Lurch from The Addams Family) humanoid, peeks out from behind a redshirt. (In the gif, which may not load, he grabs his entire face from behind, and manhandles the poor guy by his whole head.) Thanks, Ruk, for giving us our first true redshirt kill of the series!
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=TOS 1x7: What Are Little Girls Made Of?=
This episode is fascinating, in that it portrays a human who is forced to transfer his consciousness into a machine, but doesn't realize until much, much later that *not all of his humanity was transferred.* Terrifying thought.
The Romulan Commander, crouching over the body of the Centurion. One of the many ways in which this original timeline differs from the alt-make. Kirk's decisiveness in counter-attacking the Romulans was absolutely critical to preventing the war.
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=TOS 1x14: Balance of Terror=
YEAAHHH BAYBEE this was SO exciting to watch after SNW's "Alt-"Make, "A Quality Of Mercy"!
Spock accidentally activating a panel?? Preposterous.
I thought the "in another reality" speech was referencing TOS, but turns out it was IN TOS!
A faceless crew member, faceless because Charlie took her face from her for the crime of *checks notes* laughing with other crew members (who ostensibly share the same fate) about something completely unrelated to him...but IN HIS VICINITY. This is a real scene from the show. This is a real shot from the show. *They do not specifically follow up on her.* Hopefully "All is as it was" means she has a face now AND has un-suffocated to death.
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=TOS 1x2: Charlie "X"=
Charlie needs T H E R A P Y. Well, also rid of his powers, but mainly THERAPY.
SO MANY MEN would benefit from asking "am I acting like Charlie?" (esp "NU-TREK = BAD" fans, ironically. You had HOW MANY TOS binges & what, skipped this each time??)
McCoy giving the antidote to Captain Kirk via hypospray. Unfortunately for Kirk's uniform, the hypospray apparently only works on bare skin, so McCoy casually tears Kirk's (clearly tissue-paper-thin) uniform sleeve half-off. Completely unnecessary and downright baffling choice, but hilarious nonetheless

=TOS 1x4: The Naked Time=
The first guy infected is just COMPLETE amateur hour. MY HAND FEELS ICKY! LET ME LIFT MY HAZMAT AND RUB MY FACE WITH IT
"OOONE, MOOORE, TIIIIIIME!!!!!" is such a great gag lol
Forgot about Uhura's "Sorry, neither!" So cool she snuck that in!
Captain Kirk being insanely assaulted by the salty assailant, a hairy three-fingered 7-foot tall salt vampire alien, which completely drains its victims of Sodium Chloride.
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=TOS 1x1: The Man Trap=
Ah, the classic Salt Vampire ep!
PRETTY SURE I found a plot hole! It's explicitly stated the Enterprise can scan the surface to find ANY human life signs or ANY human bodies ("residual heat"), so WHY DIDN'T THEY FIND GREEN'S SALTLESS BODY?!
On the transporter pad, the "Good" (but indecisive, anxious, effectively decisively neutered) half of Kirk (right) holds upright an unconscious "Evil" (but animalistic, almost completely feral and uncontrolled) half of Kirk (left), in a big bear hug (awww). This is right before the two sides are fused BACK together via tRaNsPoRtEr TeChNoLoGy into a single, viable, working Human being. (I like to imagine both have half a brain in their skulls. Not pejoratively, just, matter-of-factly. A perfect hemispherectomy, but at a neuronal level.)
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=TOS 1x5: The Enemy Within=
This ep. is fascinating. Yes, Kirk's "evil" side was full of fear, but so was his "good" side--fear of the wrong decisions, leading him to emot. spiral & sulk instead of leading. Reminds me of me--how my anxiety has driven most of my life.
One of Mudd's Women, who is supposedly "incredibly ugly" in this shot because she hasn't taken the Venus Drug (or, later in the episode, isn't presenting herself in a Beautiful Way so it's still "her fault")--(the Venus Drug supposedly making one appear incredibly beautiful) She just looks like a woman without make-up on. Her hair's a bit frazzled. She looks upset. But that's it. To say this is "ugly" says SO MUCH ABOUT BEAUTY STANDARDS IN THE 60'S (let alone the 20th Century as a whole [who am I kidding, for all time up until today too]).
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=TOS 1x6: Mudd's Women=
The most positive thing I have to say about this episode is that Rainn Wilson really did do a FANTASTIC job of channeling this character in SNW lol
The most negative thing? THE "UGLY" VERSIONS OF THE WOMEN ARE THEM WITHOUT MAKEUP. THAT'S IT!!
The Enterprise is stopped in its tracks by a giant, glowing, Rubik's Cube in Spa--er, no, sorry, not a Rubik's cube, it's *checks notes* Balok's space buoy warning cube thing. That's a cube with brightly colored faces like white, red, yellow, blue, orange, etc.
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=TOS 1x10: The Corbomite Maneuver=
Love that Spock has Chess--and its lessons are not enough for the dire situation at hand--but Kirk has Poker, and ITS lessons are what "saved the day"! Even though no one was TRULY at risk (except at the beginning? β’οΈπ²β’οΈ)
=STAR TESTS=
Gary Mitchel, or whoever/whatever it is the man is turning into. His eyes physically glow/gleam. After encountering literal extra-Galactica phenomenon, he has just finished a round of reading pages upon pages of information in mere seconds what a "normal" person would take hours to read and fully digest. He was at the point of reading a page of information in less than a second, consistently, so much so that he had to click his page turner device as if he were a channel-changer or simple remote. All of this is being watched by the Captain on the bridge. Gary Mitchel suddenly stops his rapid-fire reading, turns his head and stares calmly and creepily down the barrel of the camera. At Kirk. Through a one-way camera. From a completely different part of the ship
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=TOS 1x3: Where No Man Has Gone Before=
I did NOT expect E.S.P. to be seriously discussed on the Enterprise's bridge.
What a GREAT, CREEPY ep to start Kirk's TOS on! Loved all the slow-burn reveals!
Also DID DISCO REF. THIS "FORCE FIELD" AT THE EDGE OF THE GLXY?!
The last (and only?) glimpse of a fully-grown SNW-style Gorn we've seen for...what, YEARS?! The lizard is in a really cool space suit. It's just been killed by Spock and Chapel.
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=SNW 2x10: Hegemony=
THIS WAS A CLIFFHANGER EP?! CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT!
NOTHING'S COOLER than reptilians in space suits. HOLY moly that was cool to see. The Gorn tail is SOOO LONG
Hate colonists getting slaughtered. Worst part of the plot.
SCOTTY!!!
TOS START NOW
Klingons singing and dancing, surely the last (FIRST!!!!!) thing anyone wants to see, am I right? (MORE PLEASE!!!)
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=SNW 2x9: Subspace Rhapsody=
Might be the most light-hearted ep of the entire franchise??
LOVE this ep!! Lol Spock at the end clearly reasoning out "logic dictates I must now dance"
Also nickel, Spock, drunk, mend relations, Klingons, two nickels, etc etc etc
Dr. M'Benga pleading with Ambassador Rah to leave him alone and stop trying to make him find peace and healing. This is shortly before Rah refuses, leading to an altercation where Rah ultimately dies from a stab wound, the same one used to kill his men during the war.
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=SNW 2x7: Under the Cloak of War=
Might be the heaviest ep of the entire franchise.
You'd think Starfleet would know better than to force anyone to put such deep trauma behind them & pretend it's all OK, even for peace.
Sometimes Starfleet paves its own road to Hell.
Not-Hemmer (actually the hallucination-inducing extra-dimensional aliens) smiling and nodding at Uhura, after she saved them all.
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=SNW 2x6: Lost in Translation=
This entire episode is about believing women and marginalized people in medical settings. Kirk shouldn't have had to give credence to Uhura's theory that it wasn't all in her head.
"I'm certain, captain" Should've been enough, Pike.
Nurse Chapel and Dr. M'Benga looking on as Human-Spock FREAKS THE EFF OUT about his newly human ears. He is halfway through saying "WHAT THE F--"
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=SNW 2x5: Charades=
I love human-Spock's emotions in this episode, it's nice to see him struggling with "overwhelming" positive emotions as well, not just rage, etc.
"A Vulcan should have a more resilient bladder" I wonder if this great line definitely was improvised!
"High Lord Zacarias", former yeoman aboard the USS Enterprise, displaying his Starfleet Delta to Captain. He has gone rogue after seemingly being abandoned, and took over an entire society.
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=SNW 2x4: Among the Lotus Eaters=
I wonder if Zac was *forgotten* when others orbit, or something like that? And that's why he was labeled KIA?
I feel so much for Luq, glad he has his family's memories in the end.
Great moves getting rid of that asteroid, Ortegas!
Alt-universe Captain Kirk and La'An witnessing the explosive terrorist destruction of the Lake Ontario bridge in the mid-21st century.
#ALLST #AllTrek #π #StarTrek
=SNW 2x3: Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow=
This ep flips the whole "would you kill kid Hitler" hypothetical on its head w/ "would you NOT do it to protect an EVENTUALLY-Utopian timeline?"
I dooon't...like that choice. Guess that's why they added 'no other way?'
