A clump of tiny iris are covered with misty raindrops against the damp fark spring soil. These iris are a luminous white, with a tracery of indigo blue veins leading from the tips of their 3 petals toward a glowing yellow throat alluringly speckled with a dark navy blue. The 3 flags perch above the petals, also veined blue. The overall effect is of a cluster of ravishingly intricate butterflies perched on wiry iris stems. Also newly emerged bumblebees love this one, but have to scrabble and wriggle to fit down the slim throat. Yes, Katharine is spelled with a double-a. If you like this, the daughter variety 'Katharine's Gold' is similar but with pale yellow petals instead of white!
