I still can scarcely believe, as a land geologist, that I experienced was able to sail on #TheJR for #IODP379 deep sea drilling in outer #AmundsenSea. (And a lucky thing, too -- because there was a quantity of #IRD ice rafted ROCK debris that glaciers carved out of the continental bedrock!)

Our latest paper was published in PNAS. This presents the geochemical evidence for the collapse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet during the mid-Pliocene, based on results from IODP Exp 379 (2019).
