Four ponies on Assateague Island.
We were able to get four nights on an electric site at Assateague Isand State Park in Maryland this week. Within an hour, the ponies showed up.

A chute made of fencing and iron gates channels the ponies toward a turn. A black & white stallion, Beach Boy, is in the center, flanked by one horse slightly behind him on the left. Behind him is another black and white pony. I stood at the gate that prevented them from further forward motion, and turned them to the right. Beach Boy is either looking at the camera or eyeballing the bar of the gate cutting across the photo horizontally. The bars of the gate frame the top and middle,so horses' legs are seen below the second bar. Photo is in black and white, to accent the horses.
A wood fence on the left of a rushing mass of ponies who will turn to the left eventually. But here they are coming toward the camera, a mass of brown, white, sorrel, dun and palomino ponies. They still have winter coats, and their legs and undersides are very dirty. It's a completely natural and beautifully textured image.
From my Assateague series. These two are from a spring roundup when the island firefighters & friends check up on the ponies. In the BW Beach Boy keeps his eye on the camera. The second photo is the herd rushing through the gates.
