This is a Baby Bison guitar designed by Jim Burns and made by Baldwin/Burns of England in 1965. The guitar features a solid sycamore body, a black finish, two black plastic guardplates with white edges, one on the upper bass horn with the Baldwin logo on it and the other on the lower treble bout on which the knobs and pickup selection switch are mounted. It also has the patented, metal, Rezo-tube whammy tailpiece, an adjustable metal bar bridge, two metal strap pins, one single coil pickup and one double coilstack pickup of which each coil is capable of working separate or together. It is said that Jim Burns was the first to utilize the two coils of a humbucker separately or combined. This Baby Bison is in good shape for a guitar that is about sixty+ years old and it is 100% original. This was Jim Burns’ last design for the Burns company. Burns guitars were made famous by The Shadows which included Cliff Richards and Hank Marvin. The company went through many hands over the years and still produces today as Burns of London. Baldwin (the piano company) bought Ormston Burns Ltd. in 1965 for approximately $380,000 after failing to win Fender from CBS. James Ormston Burns took the offer to pay off the company debt. He stayed with Baldwin through 1966 and then moved on to other endeavors. With its great fast action and terrific tone, this guitar plays like a dream. It includes an original hardshell case. BURNS-BALDWIN: SPLIT SOUND JAZZ GUITAR - MODEL 503 - 1965 This an incredibly beautiful Burns-Baldwin Split Sound Jazz Guitar. It's in near-mint condition and sounds amazing. The are a couple of minor dings but nothing significant. All the electronics work perfectly. The serial number is 115xx and it's made in England at the original Burns London factory. The Split Sound Jazz Guitars came into the Burns line in 1962. They were Jim Burn's answer to the Stratocaster. This is a solid body guitar with a double-cut-away similar to the Bison. This model is a 1965. It's one of the last original Burns guitars. You can tell that because the Burns logo was cut out of the pickguard and replaced with a Baldwin during the first year. They used the remaining Burns inventory before beginning their own/joint production. The Split Sound has three pickups which are controlled by the standard tone and volume controls along with a four position, pickup switch that varies from the tone from Split-sound, Jazz, Treble, and Wild Dog. All the control knobs are heavy metal. The pick ups are Burns Split Sounds which have six poles and are divided between the bass and treble sides. They attain their characteristic sound by splitting the pickups to upper and lower strings when set to Split Sound. The Wild Dog setting gives an out-of-phase sound. It's one of the earliest guitars to offer this feature. The guitar also has a very unique Series 2 vibrato which is a combination of Jazzmaster and Bigsby styles. On Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA, my HO model of Southern Pacific (SP) 2575 crossed the middle trestle over "Mouse Creek." This is a Sunset Models "Prestige Series" factory painted DC Brass 2-8-0. The real SP 2575 was a Baldwin built SP Class C9 Consolidation. Reportedly: it was built in 1905, builders number 25493. It was scrapped in 1953.
On Feb 21, 2026, at the model railroad club in the Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA, my HO model of SP steam 2575.

BALDWIN: MODEL 706 - 1968 BURNS-BALDWIN Model 706 ES-335 style semi-hollow body translucent red finish, made in Italy assembled in the US. This a beautiful Baldwin-Burns model 706 double-cutaway, thinline, translucent red/cherry red, semi-hollow body, electric guitar. It's in very good condition and sounds amazing. All the electronics work perfectly and the neck is straight. It comes with a gig bag. Description from VintageSilvertones.com It's serial number 13xx so it is most likely from 1968. These guitar were made from 1967 - 1970. The main parts were made in Italy and assembled at the Baldwin factory in Fayetteville, Arkansas. A Burns neck was added at the US factory with the signature scroll-top headstock. It's possible other components were made by Burns or Baldwin directly but this appears to be largely Italian made parts including the pick-ups. The pickups are "Bar Type" humbuckers with adjustable screw poles and a Baldwin logo stamped on them. It has an adjustable roller bridge, with a fixed "B" tailpiece done in a very groovy 1960's style.
