The celebration of Bob May's life at #BES2020 and several mentions of the great influence Robert MacArthur had on him caused me to go and look out this 1958 @egioxford photo from when MacArthur was in Oxford for postdoc. Always liked the stylistic contrast with the tweed!

I couldn’t believe I just chaired this morning’s Early Career Day #BES2020 (Thanks all for being such wonderful and enthusiastic participants!). But just as I said, I was completely disoriented when I began my PhD in a country I’d never been to.
