It drained him, too, to exist in a place like this, where the sky was void of all wonder and the trees bathed in rot. The curse droned on strongest in the midst, a terrible, low rumble. Thaniel never would have let this happen, he thought, and though he knew deep down that the boy was not dead, he mourned his friend anyway."

It was quiet, under the trellis. Calm. Shifting leaves and chirping insects kept him company when he couldn't bear to be in his body.  Sweet nectar concealed the taste of what he wanted to spit out. Open air and a gentle breeze promised him that no hands were there to grab and pull and take. When he hurt, he took handfuls of berries and crushed them between his palms. Devoured the flesh and savoured the juice while he starved, and then reveled in the fuzzy ache of phantom poison in his veins when there was hardly a drop of blood to carry it.

I'm so incredibly proud of it and grateful for everyone that has read it and supported me in writing it. Busy as I am with my current projects, I plan on finishing it in the next few months.
