ECR satellite meeting in Halle after #BT2024DBG
Many thanks to all organizers and contributors.
Susann Wicke on stage at the Botanik-Tagung. On the screen are x-ray ct-scans of host-parasite attachment sites. See this paper: https://nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ppp3.10509
Susann Wicke took listeners through the life-cycle of parasitic plants, from the germination signal(s), through host-attachment, to flowering.

The day at #BT2024DBG ended with a plenary lecture from Cyril Zipfel, and wow, what a talk. 🤯
Bringing together 10 years of research into the signalling pathways downstream of PAMP perception.
I saw a lot of "under review" or "in revision", so there's stuff coming...

Kasper van Gelderen on stage at the Botanik Tagung
#BT2024DBG Cell Biology Session:
@kaspervangelderen.bsky.social spoke about photobody formation and stability. Really cool #PlantMicroscopy and #LiveImaging with red/far-red light switching. 👌
#PlantScience
Jürgen Kleine-Vehn on stage. On the slide are the models from these two papers: https://elifesciences.org/reviewed-preprints/96943 https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.08.16.608248v1
The #PlantCellBiology session at #BT2024DBG was opened by Jürgen Kleine-Vehn, speaking about FER as cell wall integrity sensor and the positioning of lateral roots via two oscillatory #auxin signals.
Really cool talk!

The two main papers are below 👇
Sabeeha Merchant on stage at the Botanik Tagung. On the slide it's stated that Auxenochlorella protothecoides can be engineered to biosynthesize human milk fat - a complex process.
Day 4 at #BT2024DBG. Sabeeha Merchant talks about using #syntheticBiology to engineer Auxenochlorella protothecoides to biosynthesize human milk fat that can then be used in baby formula. Pretty cool combination of basic research, ambitious synthetic biology and application.

Meeting up with Team Compbio at #BT2024DBG to celebrate the publication of one of my PhD projects:
Comparative analysis of gene regulatory networks identifies conserved regulators in seed plants

It was great to be back in Germany again!
Having a great time at #BT2024DBG at @unihalle.bsky.social . Many thanks to Deutsche Botanische Gesellschaft (DBG) and the organizer team
The Building of the Leopoldina from the outside.
The entrance of the building with LEOPOLDINA written over the door.
The brochure, "Leopoldina - an overview of the National Academy of Science" (in German).
I actually didn't know that the Leopoldina, the German National Academy of Sciences, has its seat in Halle.
Unfortunately no welcome/outreach/info area in the building, just a brochure. But guided tours during an open house are possible.

Eliza Loo on stage at #BT2024DBG, taking about how SWEET sugar transporters influence the root microbiota with spatial differences
This year's Strasburger Award from the German Society for #PlantSciences (DBG) for the best publication goes to @elizaloopi.bsky.social from @hhu.bsky.social, who gave a nice talk on her award-winning #PlantImmunity work published in Cell, Host & Microbe:
www.cell.com/cell-host-mi...
#BT2024DBG
Bipin Pandey on stage showing a slide that illustrates communication between the plant root and its environment via short-range and long-range signalling, including the hormones ethylene and abscissic acid.
This morning at #BT2024DBG Bipin Panday from Nottingham University gave a nice talk on the interplay of ethylene and ABA signalling to induce endodermal cell wall changes (lignin and suberin) in response to soil compaction.

Today at #BT2024DBG poster session I will present my research on addressing phylogeny and taxonomy of Betula L. genus using different approaches.
P.S. posters will remain in place until Thursday morning.
Josep Peñuelas at #BT2024DBG: the rate of increase of the carbon sink by plants slowed down more than a half in the last two decades.
Wilko Punt on stage at the Botanik Tagung in Halle. The Screen shows the life cycle of Verticillium dahliae and a tomato plant.
Wilko Punt from @teamthomma.bsky.social at Uni Cologne tells us about how #tomato plants recruit Pseudomonas bacteria to fight a proxy war against the fungal pathogen #Verticillium dahliae.
