A Bank Vole nestles in the earth bank of a drainage ditch, using vegiatation and dried leaves as cover. Similar to a mouse but plumper and with a rounded rather than pointed head and smaller ears the vole is reddish brown in colour with a bright, black eye.

Ocassionally, just very ocassionally, my favourite spot of the day is not a bird.
