Thulusdhoo, Maldives. The old Ficus tree, bathed in a softer light, showcases its natural browns and greens, accentuated by sunlight and shadows on its trunk. It stands as one of the two remaining ancient Banyan trees on the island. I’m concerned about its potential removal, so I make sure to capture as many photos as possible. Since the tree is situated between my house and the beach, I pass by it at least twice a day on most days.

Thulusdhoo, Maldives. Photo taken late morning of the oldest standing banyan tree, ficus, in the island. Two tree older and larger than this were cut down last year. It’s huge with the roots running from the branches down to the ground and a generous coverage of the foliage. It is a great protector from rain and sun, night or day.
