Monday morning I laid a wreath at the #Dagenham Heathway memorial to mark the 85th anniversary of #battleofbritainday. Our freedoms are built on the sacrifices of those brave few who stood against tyranny to defend our skies in 1940. #lestweforget 🇬🇧

On this day in 1940, Germany's Luftwaffe throws more than a thousand planes at London in a massive effort to finally break British resistance and take control of the skies above Southern England. The RAF withstands the onslaught. #BattleOfBritainDay
A repost to mark #BattleOfBritainDay
Until Tom Neil's death in 2018 he was the UK's highest scoring living fighter ace. Less than 5% of pilots shot down 5 or more planes in WW2. He shot down 14. Here is the entry from his logbook for today in 1940 #BattleOfBritainDay
Today in 1940 the Germans launched a massive attack on London.
1500 planes clashed & the RAF inflicted big losses.
It forced Hitler to delay any invasion plans indefinitely.
It is remembered as #BattleofBritainDay
