A long range view from Beacon heights on the blue ridge parkway shows yellow, orange and green trees rolling into the distance with deep shadows late in the day. The sky is blue green and light orange fading into the mountains. The contour of the mountains is breathtaking in the lighting. Several dark green spruce pine trees closer to the viewer provide contrast along with a row of trees with orange and green leaves. To the left side of the picture beige tall grasses and reddish leaves of low blueberry bushes add depth. Near lower right a dark green leaved bush anchors the corner and a spindly sapling with red leaves curving like feathers add whimsy to the photo.

A wide dirt path through the woods has large rock boulders to the side and occasionally middle of the path. Roden in bushes flank, each side of the trail. Deciduous trees form a canopy above. some yellow and orange leaves provide a nice contrast to the dark green rhododendron leaves. In the far distance, two trees are grown together, such that it looks like a tree person as the trunks look like legs joining in the middle and then breaking back apart to form head and arms. This is so far in the distance it’s really not noticeable to most people.

The right upper corner of the picture shows a deciduous tree whose leaves are starting to turn yellow and orange. Lower saplings are already yellow orange. The lower right corner shows a bush, whose leaves have turned a startling, cranberry red. The bush curves from the lower left toward the right middle section of the picture. The left lower corner of the picture includes light gray rock with deeper and darker crevices and indentations, providing additional texture to the photo. Between the gray rock and the long range view, Three Spruce pine trees extend upward with their triangular shape. Lower deciduous saplings provide color contrast with yellow leaves.
Leaves are starting to turn at the higher elevations.

Gray rock extends horizontally across the bottom of the photo with a sudden drop off out of view. The tops of deciduous trees are seen higher on the left and lower on the right in the next row. Distant mountains are seen covered in dark to medium green trees.Beyond in the picture are rolling rows of more distant mountains in a blue green color. These mountains blend with the sky, close to the horizon, becoming more blue. Clouds are mixed with startlingly white clouds on the left, which are being hit by sun and deep gray clouds in shadow as they extend towards the right.
Forests are great but what about those top of the Mountain views?

After the rain
A thick deciduous tree trunk is offset left in the picture. It has a large burl the width of the trunk facing the camera. Green, moss, and light green lichen are on the tree trunk. The path wines from the photographers viewpoint to the right of the tree disappearing into the distance. Angular rocks, a foot and a half to 2 feet in dimension are in the past. Road and bushes are to the right of the picturein front of a forest of deciduous trees. A thinner tree trunk to the right of the trail is bent and forked and receives bright light making it stand out. Several of the rocks also have bright light hitting the surface, making them stand out. To the right of the Ben tree is a reddish brown decaying tree trunk on the ground lying horizontally.

A brown path with minimal roots stretches forward before the photographer. A central tree is sharply bent to the left about 75° so that it is a striking contrast to natural growth. The left of the picture shows a tree curving gently to the right. a tall, thick straight tree is on the right. The lower portions of the picture are covered in Rhododendron bushes and low vegetation. The sky is showing through upper branches is a pure white.

A rock covered trail covers the center part of the picture. Some of the rocks are about a foot and a half to 2 1/2 feet wide. The rock has layers and one rock with layers is laying sideways giving an optical illusion of almost being twisted on the path. Two slender deciduous trees form twin pillars near the center of the picture. To the left deciduous trees and bushes fill the frame. The right lower part of the picture includes wildflower vegetation, and the upper right corner contains tall 15 foot Rhododendron bushes both close to the camera and extending into the distance.

The lower 1/3 of the picture is made of different shades of mid gray rock with black shadows from early morning and a small puddle to the left. The rock slopes gradually downward to the right and away from the viewer. Mid picture left a deciduous tree is surrounded by low bushes followed by deciduous tree tops Following the hill mid picture center is a thick fir tree and two smaller thinner, fir trees. To the right center of the picture our bushes and right edge another fir tree. Continuing beyond this row of trees are low mountains, covered in dark green to mid green, vegetation and shadow. Beyond these hills is an optical illusion created by very thin, white clouds above low bluish green hills, which creates the illusion of water. There’s a whitest gray wine of sky across the picture and then the sky becomes a middle blue color. A high layer of clouds looks like cotton batting above the blue with a small amount of blue showing through. light from the Early Sun creates streaks of light from the clouds across the sky and touching the middle hills in the picture. This effect is mainly on the left side of the sky.
