Upland forest - HTmT! Spring arrives to a beech-maple upland hardwood forest in the Beaver Basin Wilderness, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

The trail from Trappers Lake to the #BeaverBasin Overlook goes through a long stretch of forest like this. It looks like some bits had been logged decades ago.

Beaver Basin Overlook The trailhead for Beaver Basin (4WD recommended) offers this view of Beaver Basin to Lake Superior. I hiked there after making camp at Trappers Lake, and saw no one along the way.

This viewpoint is on the ancient shoreline of a much-larger #LakeSuperior. Accessible by 4WD from south or trails in #BeaverBasin #Wilderness, #PicturedRocks, #UpperPeninsula, #Michigan.

Had it all to myself.

Whenever a wild animal consents to spent time with me, I always thank them. This #chipmunk was particularly gracious, letting me watch her for 20 minutes.
