A bench made of two huge trunks of wood slotted into two stout uprights buried in the ground. The seat planks pitch slightly towards each other, with at least a couple of inches gap along the middle. The wood is bleached white from decades of sun and rain.
Photograph of the view near these benches: tall trees on the left tower over a greensward with a metalled path running into the distance and the beginning of the Little Matlock Gorge.
Ancient seat, Bradgate Park. There are two remaining examples of this bench in the park that I can think of, both near Little Matlock Gorge.
