The independent investigation of 60 acres was costed at €30k.
It was proposed that the council would fund €10k as they were directly responsible for the running of #Bessborough
I answered all their questions & both were surprised at the low cost evaluation

Yes, the State should’ve preserved the remaining #Bessborough grounds, but once the council rezoned the land for residential development it was never going to be preserved by the state.
The resting places of 761 babies that died in #Bessborough are unknown

In October 2025 I on behalf of myself & @danielmloftus met with Lord Mayor Fergal Dennehy & Seamus McGrath TD & with a proposal for an independent investigation of the remaining 60 acres at #Bessborough
Our stance has always been about finding the missing babies.

After many years of fighting by advocates, survivors with plenty of appeals - the planning permission for development at Bessborough has been approved. We still do not know the burial place of over 850 children who died.
Yet, #Bessborough will be built on.

Here we go again…. Planning at #Bessborough. The farmyard area is a very sensitive area. Children worked there with their mothers. Children were buried in areas around it. 761 children died at the premises of which there are no known marked burials for them.

It’s way beyond time to look into the lives, deaths & burials of babies born in #Bessborough that died. We know that some are buried in unmarked graves outside of #Bessboro but for 859 there are no burial records at all. 761 died on the premises.

While there is a large focus on Tuam at the moment, we can't let #Bessborough or any other #MotherAndBabyHomes with hundreds of missing burials slip by either. We need investigations. Into Bessborough, Sean Ross Abbey, and more, then we do memorialisation.

Death entry of Louise Bridget O’Leary in March of 1974.
A messy poorly maintained grave slowly being reclaimed by nature with broken stones.
Found the name of another #Bessborough mother in the new Irish #Genealogy release today.
On March 23rd, 1974 — Louise Bridget O’Leary died at the age of 81, spending time in Bessborough since 1923. 51 years of her life there.
She was buried as Bridget O’Leary in late March. This is her grave. 😔

The path from the Folly to #Bessborough House.
I used to find this area so calming & visited it often to reflect & remember all those who didn’t survive.
The Folly has become a place for teenagers to hang out & play music, not a sanctuary for me anymore 😞

All Saints Cemetary @ #CarrsHill. Estimated 30,000 buried here including some of the #Bessborobabies that died in hospital. No burial records exist. What a crying shame! My brother suspected to be buried here. #MotherAndBabyHomes #859Missing #Bessborough
