'What makes bio-beads particularly concerning isn’t just the plastic itself – it’s what they carry. These pellets are designed to maximise bacterial growth, and when they come from sewage treatment facilities, that biofilm may include harmful bacteria, including E. coli and other pathogens dangerous to humans. The scale of this toxic #biobeads leak from #Eastbourne's wastewater treatment works run by Southern Water is utterly catastrophic, adding to the many huge pollution incidents the company has been guilty of over the years. The only effective remedy is to nationalise the company immediately.
