Transformative change also means rethinking how research engages with the world. From theory to action, from multispecies governance to restorative aquaculture, BiodivTransform projects explore complexity, integrating diverse worldviews and testing pathways to action.

Transformative change is also about navigating tensions, incl. between conventional conservation and more inclusive approaches, and across values and knowledge systems. It requires engaging actors differently and ensuring that those driving change are supported and protected.

With ~€7 billion invested, EU-funded R&I is shifting towards addressing root causes, transforming governance and scaling solutions, moving from knowledge generation to system change. That’s where research meets implementation.
#BiodivTransform
Biodiversity policy in the EU is shifting from targets to implementation, not just protecting nature, but restoring ecosystems and reshaping how finance and public spending support it. The challenge is to turn ambition into coordinated, system-wide action.
#BiodivTransform
Financial markets prioritise short-term returns while long-term ecological risks are discounted. At the same time, trillions circulate globally, while biodiversity remains underfunded. The problem is not capital. It’s how financial systems allocate it.
#BiodivTransform
Our crises are interlinked: biodiversity, climate, water, food and health reinforce each other. But responses are still siloed.
We already have many solutions. The challenge is aligning them to avoid trade-offs and deliver benefits across systems.
#BiodivTransform
Biodiversity is not only an environmental issue, it is a human rights issue. The full enjoyment of rights to water, food, health and dignity depends on biodiversity. Recognising it as a standalone human right would strengthen legal protections and accountability.
#BiodivTransform
We can’t address biodiversity loss without addressing how wealth is concentrated. Unsustainable consumption and production patterns — from supply chains to profit models — are central to whether biodiversity goals are achievable.
#BiodivTransform
Transformative change is hard not only because systems resist change, but because inequality shapes who can bear the risks. If change is seen as unfair or threatening, it will face resistance. Justice is not an add-on, it is part of implementation.

How can #BiodivTransform projects engage with @ipbes.net and other conventions? The #BiodivTransform launch event starts with a capacity-building workshop held by Camille Guibal, Charlotte Le Delliou and Laura Pereira, aiming to bridge projects and international biodiversity policy frameworks.
We are just about to start a #BiodivTransform Launch Event in a minute! Good luck to all the @biodiversa.eu projects!
