Facing the wrong way, I had to wait for him to even turn his head around, but that was as good as it got... just now with a backlit Kestrel up on the wire against clear blue sky.
🪶 My wife's a great spotter. She just yelled "Your Kestrel's here!" from the back yard. 📢
🌿She did not say he was backlit and facing the wrong way however. So we wait again. 🤘😶🌫️Today's #birding! 🦅

A Red-shouldered Hawk, that had been perched on the wire, takes to the air. The yellow feet can be seen just releasing the wire, and the back and of the body and the wings are swept up. The head is pointed in the direction of flight - so not visible to the camera.

The hummingbird sits within an easy reach of the hanging baskets and can also keep a watch on approaching adversaries for the hummingbird feeder. They guard their nectar sources fiercely.
Very late to the game today with an Anna’s Hummingbird on a wire garden trellis for the grape arbor.
