I’ve noticed a creepy phenomenon since publishing my second book #Heiresses that was not a thing back when #BlackTudors came out in 2017. I get these weird sucky-up emails that must have been written by AI claiming they will get the book the audience it deserves… anyone else get this?

A banner showing the cover of “England’s Other Countrymen” and the quote: “One of the most moving aspects of the book is its presentation of ordinary black Tudor lives, in country villages as well as the metropolis. Nubia seeks to restore their place in the story and in the nation.” Quote by Ewan Fernie, The Shakespeare Institute, University of Birmingham (Stratford-upon-Avon).

“England’s Other Countrymen” by Onyeka Nubia is a forgotten history of diversity and cultural exchange that casts a new light on our own attitudes towards race.

Ooh looks brilliant! I conceptualised the story of Diego, who escaped Panama with Francis Drake in 1572 as an early case of maritime marronage in my book #BlackTudors

You seem to have misunderstood me. I’m referring to wills where Africans were left money and goods NOT treated as property themselves. See #BlackTudors pp.256-258

Hello, quite new here, so introducing myself 👋 I’m a historian of #BlackBritishHistory @icws-sas.bsky.social, living in North Wales. My first book was #BlackTudors and my new one #Heiresses, is about nine British women who inherited enslaved people and plantations in the Caribbean.

Was lovely meeting up with @michaelohajuru.bsky.social on Saturday, as well as attending The Black Literary Festival in Hammersmith.
Was also great meeting newsreader Clive Myrie, who bought a copy of 'Who Is John Blanke?' 👌🏼😊

Playing with students' preconceptions and getting them to engage with the stories from @MirandaKaufmann before revealing that these people were #BlackTudors. Activity places an historian into the classroom & let students make the case for significance. @1972SHP #SHP2019 #shp19

Fascinating presentation from @writerlennon about teaching #BlackTudors by @MirandaKaufmann in English. 'History & English need each other'. Creative historical fiction can be a fantastic way for students to demonstrate a firm grasp of historical content. @1972SHP #SHP2019 #shp19

Learning about #BlackTudors can provide 'the interruption of the psyche' to challenge conventional thinking about the past, making us engage with new questions. Great ideas here using @MirandaKaufmann work - found in #TeachingHistory @1972SHP #SHP2019 #shp19
