A long, rustic blade with a polished wood handle on a red fabric background.

A close-up of one side shows an inscription: “WE HAVE SMOKE”. It is etched in through the forge texture.

A close up of the handle shows the wood to be a dark brown with almost black layers, and polished smooth. The butt end of the knife is a small loop forged into the shape of the blade.

This was a fun weekend project. A bespoke brisket slicer for a BBQ master.

A knife against a background of paper towels and plywood. It is a work in progress, a carbon steel cleaver with an Osage orange wood handle and silver metal bolster and pommel. The blade is rectangular with a curved notch in the spine to serve as a bottle opener. The steel has a dark edge and some small dark splotches on the face. The dark patches are indicative of layered steel but also have the dramatically contrasted organic flow of fake blood on a prop knife.

Still need to finish up this handle but I kinda love how the san mai on this cleaver/bottle opener looks like Halloween prop blood splatter.

The knife described in the post standing up point-first stuck into a messy wooden work bench.

This one was originally a longer knife but the tang broke off after it was already heat treated, so I cut a new tang out of it. We don’t make mistakes, we make smaller knives.
