This photo shows the green, terminal leaves, of two branches on my Oak Leaf Hydrangea bush. They had partially unfolded their leaves which are pointed and triangular in shape. When open, they will be large, like a hand's silhouette with distinct ridges.

Eight Frothergilla Mount Airy flowers, This bush blossoms with white pom-pom flowers. The leaves do not appear until the blooms are done.

While doing some spring pruning of dead branches on our yew bush, I found this small hew growth amid the thriving moss. The moss is soft to the touch.

Bark and moss can be as interesting as blooms. Our mature Plum Yew has moss on the base of its trunk.

This is a photo of 2 thoroughly dried zinnias. Pre-frost, they were both a pretty dark pink. Heirloom annuals produce viable seeds. I carefully pull out each dry petal. Zinnia seeds are thin, diamond-shaped. Viable ones are usually black or dark brown. Gray or white are not viable. Store in a clean container such as a glass jam jar. Keep in a cool, not cold space.

This is the time to harvest a portion of your flowers seeds after a hard freeze. I keep a corner of the garden for my heirloom zinnias. Gently pull individual petals away from the stalk, at the base will be a diamond-shaped seed. Store in a covered container.
