Clutching at straws slightly here but has anyone ever read a decent book about the Catholic aristocracy? A proper one, not a pamphlet – and not Mark Bence-Jones' Catholic Families, which I've got. Does such a thing exist?

Friends, who knows things about #AmericanRevolution veterans in the trans-Mississippi west? There is William Cannon, who made it all the way to the Oregon Territory. Who else? I am thinking of writing a paper. #historians #history #blueskyhistorians

A book cover with a large light-colored center box, with the author name and book title: The Starving Empire: A History of Famine in France's Colonies in black text. The center box is surrounded by colorful flags and leafless trees.
#BlueSkyHistorians: The French Review praises for Yan Slobodkin's "The Starvation Empire", noting how it "effectively illustrates the complicated nature of famine management and colonial responsibility in Algeria, the Sahel region, French Equatorial Africa, & Indochina."

Does anyone know where the English damnation of Joan of Arc (as 'limier du Malin, appelé la Pucelle', 'bloodhound of the devil, called the Maid') comes from? Possibly a letter from Bedford to the council? TIA!

A mystery place in Essex. Difficult to decipher C16 handwriting.
I'm not familiar with medieval Essex. Can any C16 specialists tell me where this place might be? #Palaeography #BlueSkyHistorians TIA

I know fascism is never subtle, but can any #BlueskyHistorians out there comment on how Trumpism’s brazenness compares with other fascist governments?
His legacy as a scientist, humanitarian, and advocate for agricultural advancement continues to inspire generations.

I cannot recommend Bruno's thread enough. I was able to make all the maps for my forthcoming book, just by following his instructions (and advice when I got stuck). #SkyHistorians #BskyHistorians #BlueSkyHistorians

Abijah Fowler is a fantastic antagonist in Blue Eye Samurai🏯
His monologue to the shogun about trade & "Opening Japan to the West" is a great reference to the late Edo Period.
His line, "what's the harm in a little trade?", is my personal favorite.

Ok #blueskyhistorians - I’m considering centering my Am. history survey course this spring on #foodhist or #musichist. What recs do you have for readings? It’s both halves in one semester so pretty fast and a freshman level.
I have a fair number of new followers so here’s a quick re-introduction! I’m a historian of the American West, Indigenous history, environmental history, and animals. Most of my posts are shamelessly about my dogs or the outdoors but I sprinkle some history in there. #envhist #blueskyhistorians
Would like to talk with historians interested in building GPT4o tailored agents to support historical research. Working with Cambridge and the LSE to test this out this Fall. Happy to share a presentation I gave to a UK National Archives AI workshop from the perspective of a user. #BlueSkyHistorians

Who likes historical data? How old were Early Modern mariners? Well it depends... #BlueSkyhistorians

Guess I will have to post some content to see if I can interest #blueskyhistorians. Here's an early C17th deposition concerning the fear of turning Turk by an enslaved two year old surgeon, who was son of a London grocer @timhitchcock.bsky.social
A white linen chemise (sort of like an early version of what we'd consider a slip now? Worn under dresses to keep dresses clean and smelling fresh, because the linen would absorb any body oils and sweat and keep other layers of clothing from touching the body. IMO the chemise is pretty cute too).
Why did the linen chemise fall out of fashion? Or did it just evolve into the lesser worn slip?
I have some ideas but I'd love your input, #BlueSkyHistorians.
