The world cup security budget standoff in Foxboro brought up a lot of deja vu for me 11 years ago when I was in the midst of the #Boston2024 olympic debacle. This is such an embarrassing look for Boston, FIFA, & the Trump Administration.
Bob Kraft is *singlehandedly* responsible for allowing this standoff with Foxboro to drag on for weeks.
Marty Walsh was *singlehandedly* responsible for so poorly vetting the #Boston2024 bid and IndyCarBoston.

Well, the 2004 convention was hardly the scale of #boston2024, and didn’t involve significant insider deals, land grabs and a hangover requiring multiple demolitions at taxpayer expense.
I’m very familiar with his work and fought the #Boston2024 like a demon on fire. That involved inside deals for development rights, “legacy assets” and poorly-vetted venue locations.
I don’t recall Zimbalist opining on these types of political conventions.

Maybe the difference here is that I appreciate SL's *opinions* on issues that matter to me. Often opinions don't require fact-checking. On the #Boston2024 bid, failures to fact-check claims were a personal concern.
Having lived through decades of inside deals in 02210, SL's work has mattered to me.
I'm a fan of @leungboston.bsky.social and a dedicated reader of her columns.
But Ms. Leung's fact-free boosterism of Mayor Walsh's thinly-vetted #Boston2024 Olympic bid — browbeating opponents on a claim that "Boston is unable to do big things," was renown.
