"A solemn and perpetual memorial" The Paul Revere House is excited to present a commemorative reimagining marking the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s Boston Massacre illuminations. On March 5, 1771, Paul Revere used his recently purchased home to keep the memory of the Boston Massacre and opposition to the British occupation in Boston fresh with a series of three illuminations displayed in the windows facing North Square. According to contemporary reports, thousands streamed by his house in silence to witness the spectacle which was a key link in the Revolutionary chain between the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. Our virtual program will offer footage of a local artist’s reimagining of the illuminations, newspaper accounts, and an in-depth panel discussion with Revere engraving expert, Prof. Nancy Siegel, and Boston Massacre scholar Prof. Serena Zabin to add context and color to this incredibly significant event. Please note that the reimagined illuminations presented and the contemporary 18th c. newspaper accounts describing the original pieces contain some violent imagery which may be disturbing to some viewers.

An early act of the #AmericanRevolution, the #BostonMassacre was on #ThisDayInHistory in 1770. Angry at British troops on the streets, a crowd taunted them and threw snowballs until one fired, prompting a volley in which five were killed, including Black seaman #CrispusAttucks.

5 people were shot and killed by British troops in an event which became known as the #BostonMassacre. This event, the #propaganda surrounding it, and the subsequent outcry that the propaganda caused, would prove pivotal in garnering support for the American War for Independence.

I think it's a logical and rational side effect of seeing 7 people murder someone who posed no threat to them.

Pretty sure witnesses to the #BostonMassacre didn't walk away loving the British more.

I think anyone who saw the #MinneapolisMassacre would feel the same way.

This is the famous image used to depict the Boston Massacre during the American revolution. It depicts a group of British soldiers (Red Coats) on the right firing their guns into a crowd of unarmed civilians on the left. The Red Coats are engulfed in smoke from their muskets, partially obscuring the Boston city center in the backdrop.

It wasn't called the Boston Massacre because everyone unanimously agreed that should be the name or that the events occured as the revolutionaries said they had. The Crown supported the Red Coats, as did the Loyalists #history #americanhistory #bostonmassacre (1/3)

On point. Those who don’t know about the Boston Massacre should read the Wikipedia page. What caught my attention is “verbally abused” was one of things that got the other officers involved and escalated the situation. Five year olds have thicker skin than these guys. #BostonMassacre
