Day 11 of advent. Yesterday I posted a Sweeney Toddler strip drawn by Tom Paterson, but it was originally created by Leo Baxendale. In a relatively short stint at DC Thomson lasting about a decade, he created some of their most notable characters including “The Bash Street Kids”

Day 10 of Advent, and being an 80s kid, one of the artists with the most distinct style was Tom Paterson, and the strip I associate him with the most - “Sweeney Toddler” who appeared across multiple IPC titles “Shiver and Shake”, “Whoopee”, “Whizzer and Chips” and “Buster”

Day 2 of advent, and the Fleetway/IPC comics had a lot of strips based around the theme of 2 opposing types (“the Goodies & The Baddies” “Upper Crusts & Lazy Loafers” “Tough Nut & Softy Centre”) but the best and most enduring was “Ivor Lott and Tony Broke” by artist Reg Parlett

I’m enjoying reading through old Christmas comics, so thought I’d post a strip each day till Xmas.

Let’s start with Ginger, from the Beezer. Drawn originally by Dudley D Watkins, he’s basically an English version of his Sunday Post star Oor Wullie. This strip is from 1956.
