Right church, wrong pew: Chicagoland’s subterranean future – that, no fooling, would also facilitate Union Station-O’Hare travel times of 30 minutes or less entirely on existing infrastructure – is actually #BuildTheTunnel.

This is a #BuildTheTunnel post actually
In addition to building up, we also need to build down. Thru-running regional rail could transform all of northeastern Illinois, especially on Chicago’s South Side and working-class communities throughout Cook County.
It’s time to #BuildTheTunnel.

Wow, I think we should #BuildTheTunnel
(Spoiler alert: we’ve already built like 96% of it)
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but this GIF is worth close to 3,000. Or at least that's how long this recent Substack post to describe it ended up being. #BuildTheTunnel starlinechicago.substack.com/p/a-regional...

In other words, if we go full quagmire/energy supply crisis in the Middle East, it'll only take about 14 months for Illinois taxpayers to pay the same premium in gas prices as the tunnel would cost.
How can we afford regional rail? On the contrary, how can we afford *not* to #BuildTheTunnel?
The average Illinoisian buys just under one gallon of gas a day.
The CrossTowner regional rail vision has a base price estimate of just under $10 billion.
If gas holds steady at $2/gal higher now than a month ago, it'd only take about 431 days for Illinois drivers to pay enough to #BuildTheTunnel.

I fear I'm getting dangerously close to making an economic argument to #BuildTheTunnel
Regional rail is the megaprojects’ megaproject: a smart, effective way to leverage targeted public improvements in order to unlock billions of dollars in private-sector investment throughout the entire region, all by changing the way we use infrastructure we (mostly) already have. #BuildTheTunnel
