Amiable and full on "Freeloaders".
This quiet bird is a duplicate of one at my home. Same song too.
I have identified 4 distinct variations in pattern and approximately 7 different songs.
They also mimic Crows, Peewees, Magpies etc.

Two Loggerhead Shrikes, a/k/a “Butcherbirds” because they impale their prey on sticks or barbed wire to eat them.

While in #Thessaloniki for #ECPR, I decided to wake up very early one morning to go to the #KalochoriLagoon. 🌅 First bird I saw was a #shrike. These little hunters are also called #ButcherBirds – they impale their prey on thorns or barbed wire to save it for later.

🌏 Pied butcherbird (Cracticus nigrogularis) The pied butcherbird is a striking medium-sized black and white bird, with a black hood, white collar, and a strong, hooked grey and black bill. It is found across most of mainland Australia in drier forests, woodlands, and often suburban areas. Pied butcherbirds are known for their beautiful, melodious fluting songs. They are also aggressive predators, feeding on insects, small reptiles, mammals, frogs, and birds, often impaling prey on thorns or forks in branches. They live in pairs or small family groups, holding territories year-round. Two subspecies are recognised. Australian Butcherbird

#Butcherbirds are carnivorous, feasting on insects, small birds, reptiles and rodents. They get their name from the way they often impale their prey on twigs, thorns and branches - using them like a meat hook (and sometimes for storage like a gnarly pantry of sorts).
