the consolations of division what leans on me is the split-- the slow, steady divide between the me of you that drives rain sideways, that sends train whistles straight down spines, that turns the whole body electric, that leaves me bemused by how clean the hurt can be-- as if the instruction manual for your old kettle was equipment for living. maybe that’s what a break reveals-- where the heat escaped, where the lie lived, where to stop holding on.
